We are seeking dynamic and experienced finance professionals looking to make a real impact in higher education here at the University of Bristol.

This is a unique chance to work as a Finance Business Partner in a prestigious institution committed to excellence and innovation.

We have full-time and part-time opportunities for Finance Business Partners to work within both our Finance Partnering and Post Award research teams.


Finance Business Partner (Finance Partnering)


As Finance Business Partner you will work with faculties, schools, and divisions to deliver their goals from a financial perspective.

You will give advice and support to assist with decision-making and help to shape and improve financial strategies that also drive the university's wider growth and impact.

You will work closely with the Head of Finance in delivering Management Information which is key in support of budgeting and forecasting across the financial year.

Collaborating closely with Schools and Divisions in this highly versatile role you will play a crucial part in the budget process and have the chance to deliver top quality accounting support to your stakeholders.


Finance Business Partner, Research (Post Award)


Working within the Research Centre of Excellence the Post-Award team play a vital part in the management of research grants and other funding streams.

As Finance Business Partner in this team, you will hold responsibility for the financial compliance of the research portfolio providing accounting, financial management and reporting services across the institution.

The wider external funding portfolio equates to around £220 million per annum across 3 faculties and areas of Professional Services.

You will lead the team made up of Assistant Accountants and will be responsible for the day-to-day line management of 5 Post Award Team Leaders.

What will you be doing?:


  • You will partner with key stakeholders to provide financial insights and guidance.
  • Lead on budgeting and forecasting processes in line with the correct accounting treatment and the School or Division's specific initiatives and goals.
  • Analysing data, you will provide Management Information, identify growth, and cost saving opportunities.
  • Use negotiation and influencing skills when working with academic and senior management staff to direct outcomes and advise them.

For the Finance Business Partner, Research role, you will also:

  • Reporting into the Head of Finance (Research) you will lead, oversee and motivate the Post Award team.
  • Administer large complex, multiinstitutional research projects, Doctoral Training Entities (DTE) and Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT).
  • Make sure processes run efficiently, identify improvements and development requirements for the team.
  • You are an experienced Accountant and business partner with proven proficiencies in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and planning.
  • You have advanced analytical and problemsolving skills and are able to manage a busy workload delivering to tight deadlines.
  • You are a Qualified Accountant, or you are qualified by equivalent experience.
  • Communication is key to the way you work, and you are able to utilise these skills in verbal, written and presentation format.
  • You are an adept line manager with the people skills and expertise required to lead a successful team.
  • You have knowledge of higher education Research grants from different funding streams.
