Forming part of the SYNLAB Group, Lextox are a UKAS accredited laboratory based in Cardiff. Lextox provide drug, alcohol and DNA testing services for family law cases and childcare proceedings. SYNLAB in the UK is a trusted expert in clinical laboratory and medical diagnostic services.
We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Team Leader to join our Drug & Alcohol laboratory team in Cardiff, on a full time and permanent basis.
Hours: 40hrs a week / Monday - Friday
Responsibilities:
- To support the Lab Manager in the management of all staff resources within the laboratory.
- To supervise and manage the daytoday lab operation.
- To support the Lab Manager in the development and implementation of documents and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure compliance with UKAS and ISO17025 accreditation standards.
- To review SOP's, the applicability and effectiveness of procedures on an ongoing basis.
- To support the Deputy Lab Manager in carrying out staff sickness absence returns, first line appraisals and one to ones.
- To be responsible for investigating laboratory nonconformances or nonstandards occurrences.
- Support Deputy Lab Manager to ensure training and competency records are kept up to date in a timely manner and perform checks periodically.
- To support the Deputy Lab Manager with technical queries from within the laboratory and/or other Lextox departments, dealing with them in an efficient and timely manner.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- BSc Science (or equivalent) or a relevant Science degree.
- Experience in managing staff in a laboratory situation. Experience in working in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
- A strong focus on service and quality with an eye for detail and accuracy.
- Experience of working in a clinical laboratory, with a strong focus on quality and demonstrate understanding training in all lab processes.
- Previous first line management experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- A conscientious attitude with good attention to detail.
- Ability to organise oneself & others.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills.
