The Role:


We are looking to recruit Rolling Stock Electrical Engineers that can demonstrate the ability to provide technical support to resolve performance or maintenance issues and enhance knowledge of the train systems performance.


Position Summary:


Provide train systems engineering advice for the vehicle as a whole and for the key vehicle systems (such as TCMS - train control system, HVAC, propulsion, brakes, doors, on-train communications etc.) This role is an excellent opportunity for an engineer thatis looking to make their next career step up from an Electrical Warranty Engineer or a Performance, Reliability Engineer to an Electrical Project Support Engineer.

The Project Support Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support to resolveperformance or maintenance issues and enhance knowledge of the train systems performance.


You will achieve this by:

  • Providing technical support across the Aventra Platform.
  • Electrical Investigation, Electrical fault finding, rectification and presenting the information/feedback to the Product Support Team and Customer
  • Monitoring, recording and discussing performance of fleet with customer.
  • Providing technical support to the operations team and all other key stakeholders.
  • Providing technical support to a team of Electrical Warranty Technicians

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical support to resolve performance or maintenance issues and enhance knowledge of the train systems performance.
  • Support the Operations Manager and Southern with a range of engineering, performance and management activities as required in order to meet contract obligations.
  • Monitor, analyse, investigate and develop solutions in a timely manner to resolve technical issues associated with the operation of the New Trains.
  • Responsible for technical/ incident or accident investigation and development/ implementation of appropriate containment or solutions in order to maintain and improve reliability/performance against targets.
  • Measuring availability, reliability and safety targets as well as claims management and fault attribution as required.
  • Developing safe and effective modifications or changes to maintenance specifications to improve performance, reduce costs, improve safety or meet customer requests.
  • Deliver material technical support, review material performance against specification, review reliability and obsolescence of parts and monitor material specification against expected performance.
  • Electromechanical background/ experience is ideal.
  • Significant technical knowledge of design and maintenance of train systems.
  • Manage day to day activities of the warranty team.
  • Conduct daily meetings internally and externally.
  • Ensure that visualisation is maintained and correct.
  • Minimum Engineering HND / HNC or equivalent, or completion of a recognised apprenticeship with extensive relevant experience.
  • Past experience in engineering in the railway industry. In depot operations would be advantageous.
  • An understanding of modern rolling stock or similar technology would be a benefit.

The following attributes are a necessity:

  • Ability to demonstrate investigating electrical engineering problems
  • Ability to demonstrate providing a solution to an electrical engineering problem
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical engineering problems
  • Ability to present an electrical engineering solution to the customer
  • Strong MS Office skills, ideally SAP experience.
  • Working experience with rolling stock.
  • Strong communication/ interpersonal/ influencing skills.
  • Proven ability to carry out complex electrical maintenance, repair and modification tasks
  • Knowledge of computer based asset management system to record and close out work completed.
  • To be able to review work carried out and improve sequencing in order to reduce timings to a minimum.
  • To be able to prioritise work to maximise output with resources available
