We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who will help to develop the local diabetes and endocrine service. The clinical duties are mainly based at Preston with few clinics at Chorley site.

We also have very well-established links with local primary care trust. The post will also involve general diabetes and endocrine clinics. The successful applicant will have opportunities to develop other interests within diabetes and endocrinology.

We would welcome someone to develop sub-specialist interest in diabetes.

We have strong links with paediatrics, obstetrics, vascular surgery, renal and biochemistry department within the hospital to develop specialist service in diabetes that the post holder wants to develop.

You would specifically adopt, in conjunction with colleagues, an active role in the planning, development and delivery of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Services for the Directorate.

Participate in the Consultant on-call rota at the Preston Hospital with additional cover during a colleague's absence.

Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than full-time and ensure that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods.

Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.

Develop close links with General Practitioners operating in the area.

Exercise the freedom to develop specialist elements of the services to reflect perceived priorities within available resources.

There is a strong team-based focus with dedicated Diabetes Specialist Team members working between primary and secondary care. There are several joint specialist clinics including diabetes foot, diabetes pregnancy, endocrine pregnancy, gynaecology endocrine and pituitary clinics.

We have a dedicated endocrine specialist nurse, and a full range of dynamic endocrine tests are performed in our investigation unit.

At Preston much of the outpatient diabetes work is delivered from the Minerva Centre - a purpose-built facility built into the new stand at Preston North End football ground 10 minutes from RPH.
