We currently have 1 part-time vacancy for a receptionist to join our team working on our busy reception in the Pharmacy Department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

The postholder will be responsible for operating the prescription tracking system to ensure that prescriptions are processed efficiently and telephone enquiries dealt with appropriately

You must possess excellent communication skills, be highly motivated and customer focused. Previous Hospital experience would be beneficial.


You should have a good standard of education, past experience in working with the public, an excellent telephone manner and ability to communicate well at all levels.

Basic computer skills are also required. Experience within a pharmacy setting would also be welcome.


The Pharmacy Receptionist is the face of the Pharmacy Department and we require people with a positive and responsible attitude to work, who can demonstrate good communication skills, a friendly and helpful demeanor and can work well within a team.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

  • 09:00 18:00 1 hour lunch plus 1 in 3 Saturday (9 am to 1 pm). This Post will also involve 1 in 6 Sunday and Bank Holiday cover on a Rota basis.
Key duties for the post include greeting and helping customers at the Pharmacy Reception or on the telephone.

Receiving prescriptions from patients and hospital staff, logging all incoming work onto the prescription tracking system and liaising with patients and hospital staff with regard to prescription status and general queries.

To receive out-patients, medical and nursing staff, other health care professionals of all grades, visitors and pharmaceutical representatives.

To determine their requirements, serving them in a sympathetic, effective and efficient manner in order that the highest levels of customer satisfaction can be achieved and maintained in accordance with departmental and the Trust's regulations.


To receive and evaluate all incoming telephone calls, dealing with them in a sympathetic, effective and efficient manner or referring them to the most appropriate person, so contributing to the provision of safe, efficient, cost-effective and high quality pharmaceutical service to all patients.


To be responsible for the issue and recording of controlled stationery, in the form of out-patient prescription pads, throughout the hospital in order that their supply can be continually monitored.


To complete any relevant stock request forms or inter-hospital transfer forms as necessary in order to contribute to the day-to-day pharmaceutical service delivery.

To be responsible for the issue and recording of resuscitation boxes to wards and departments.

To be responsible for operating the prescription tracking system, logging all prescription requests onto the pharmacy tracking system.

This requires the ability to deal with answering all incoming telephone calls appropriately, advising ward staff how to use the tracking system.

If needed using the computer to track down the inpatient and outpatient prescriptions and liaising with the appropriate dispensary staff if necessary to relay back to the caller the results of the tracking.

To keep all out-patients fully informed of the progress of their prescription, taking into account the requirements of the Patient's Charter, by liaison with other members of the pharmacy

To understand the requirements and procedures for the disposal of unwanted medicines including controlled drugs team.

Collate prescriptions each day and record relevant the information.

Put medication into alphabetical order from previous day if not collected.
At the end of the month put all medicat
