Working Full Time: 37.5 Hours per Week


To give professional Medical Staffing Specialist advice and promote fair and open practice across the Trust at an operational level in accordance with policies, local procedures, national guidance, statutory requirements, employment law and the HR annual plan.

To provide a robust and speedy recruitment service to ensure vacancies are filled as quickly as possible.

This will include managing and establishing a robust recruitment process and devising timetables for shortlisting and interviewing and ensuring consultants keep to the timetables.


To oversee and support the Medical Staffing Coordinators to provide a competent and coordinated medical staffing team that meet their operational deadlines.

To provide support to the HR Medical Staffing Manager to meet the medical staffing objectives for the Trust.


  • Provide direction and advice to managers in relation to accessing Medical Staffing specialist support and advice when implementing the corporate objectives/plan.
  • To provide consistent advice and guidance to managers using own area of expertise and specialist knowledge, in dealing with medical staffing matters, including, attendance management, capability/performance, disciplinary and resourcing issues. This may include supporting managers and involvement in investigations, preparation for and provision of advice on cases for hearings and participation in meetings most of which are of a sensitive and complex nature. E.g. bullying/harassment issues, panel member in disciplinary interviews up to and including dismissal and non-board level appeal.
  • Be familiar with the Lead Employer's policies in respect of junior doctors in training and ensure they are applied fairly and consistently
  • Manage the junior doctors rotation information and action any gaps in the rotations
  • Update ESR payroll information as required
  • To provide timely and accurate reports/information to meet with Board meeting timescales
To support the HR Medical Staffing Manager in any project work, including Clinical Excellence Awards


The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust consists of a 600 bedded large District General Hospital, which provides its services on the Countess of Chester Health Park, and a 64 bedded Intermediate Care Service at Ellesmere Port Hospital.


The Trust provides services in all of the surgical and medical specialties common to a District General Hospital with some specialist services.
