Description

To manage the day to day operational duties and staffing within the Waiting List department in order to consistently support achievement of the Trust and departmental key performance indicators.


To be responsible for the day to day management of systems and procedures within the Waiting list team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the service.


To work closely alongside the Waiting List Coordinators, providing support when there is absence in the team and providing a resilience of knowledge across all of the surgical specialities to ensure efficient running of the service.

To manage and lead on data analysis and service improvements for the Waiting List team.


To work closely with the Operational Managers to offer assurance that clinical governance is being actively considered and promoted throughout the scheduling process.


To work closely with clinical divisions to negotiate over service requirements in order to develop consistent working practices throughout the Trust to enable the delivery and support of waiting time targets.

Job specific responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day activities of the key systems within the waiting list team ensuring resources are effectively utilised.
  • Managing staffing levels in the team. Putting a plan in place for low staffing levels. Responsible for providing cover across specialties when staffing levels are low.
  • Supporting training and developing training plans for Waiting List Coordinators.
  • Supporting the Operational Managers in implementing new processes and procedures amongst the Waiting List team.
  • Ensure the Waiting List team are aware of their roles in supporting the patient along their treatment pathway and implementing any actions as required.
  • Compiling qualitative/quantitative data required by the surgical division on behalf of the Waiting List team.
  • Assisting the Operational Manager for theatres in ensuring clinical governance is adhered to.
  • Supporting the Waiting List Coordinators to fully utilise available theatre lists across all of the surgical specialities.
  • Supporting the Operational Manager in improving utilisation of theatre time.
  • Support the Operational Manager when working with Trust project teams where there is an impact on the activities of the Waiting list function.
