The role
Great Minds Together are delighted to announce that we are the Regional Hub for the Northwest for Autism Central.
This is a new programme, co-designed to provide high-quality and accessible autism information, education, and coaching for families, and carers, and co-delivered by autistic people, families, and carers.
Autism Central has been commissioned by NHS England's Workforce, Training and Education Team and is delivered nationally by nine not-for-profit organisations.
We are now recruiting Peer Educators who will be trained to coach, signpost, and share their learning with other parents and carers of autistic people.
You will deliver sessions in a variety of ways, including group and individual sessions and the focus will be on meeting the needs of autistic people and signposting them for access to local and national services.
Duties of the role
- Support families, carers, and personal assistants to access further learning and resources via Autism Central's online portal
- Educate and empower families, carers, and personal assistants to access support locally
- Maintain and develop an uptodate knowledge of autism and local service provision across the region for appropriate signposting and referrals
- Deliver group sessions to the family members and carers of autistic people
- Attend and complete Tier 1 national Autism Central training
- Contribute towards the protection of individuals from abuse by adhering to Great Minds Together Child and At-Risk Adults Safeguarding policies at all times
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained and that Great Minds Togethers GDPR Policy is adhered to at all times
- Ensure effective and accurate recording and reporting systems in line with Great Minds Togethers procedures
- Undertake administrative tasks necessary for the efficient and effective delivery of the key responsibilities in this role
Requirements for the role
- Lived experience of autism
- Experience of working with and providing support to autistic and neurodivergent individuals and their families
- Experience of safeguarding vulnerable children, young people and/or adults
- Experience of providing mentorship and coaching to staff or volunteers
