An opportunity has arisen for appointment to the role of Head of Post Registration School within the North West School of Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation.


The post holder will establish themselves as a key contact point, both within HEE and externally, on matters concerning the post registration programme.

This will involve presenting highly complex information in sensitive situations, delivering difficult messages to a wide range of stakeholders.

They will develop effective relationships with HEI Schools of Pharmacy, employers, NHS England, and other external bodies and regulatory bodies such as the GPhC.

They will work internally and externally to deliver the pharmacy programme's initiatives.


The role requires the individual to be autonomous and provide leadership and oversight on a senior level both regionally and nationally.

This post supports pharmacy training and development, working with educators and other stakeholders.

You will be responsible for providing professional leadership, expertise, advice and support to:

- provide senior leadership for an assigned portfolio of work programmes covering multiple organisations and agencies

  • Recommend policy improvement or changes as a result of comprehensive and timely reviews of programme performance and outputs
- support the implementation of national priorities in relation to the school of pharmacy and medicines optimisation development and assigned programme

  • Support the Pharmacy Dean to build and preserve trusted stakeholder relationships and networks of influence among external, Boardlevel stakeholders in challenging circumstances to support the promotion of HEE's strategic objectives, partnership working and the alignment of HEE local/national education transformation strategies to broader healthcare system priorities
  • Lead and support equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives in pharmacy education


The School will ensure that the people of the North West are supported in all aspects of medicines use by staff in health and social care, who have the right skills, knowledge and behaviours achieved through the best possible provision of education and training in Medicines Optimisation.

We provide leadership and advice, engage pharmacy teams in all sectors, other health and social care professionals, patients, the public and other stakeholders in our work.

We work with providers of education and regulators to ensure that our work improves use of medicines and therefore enhances patient safety and promotes professionalism, provide advice and leadership in the quality assurance of learning, so that learners are part of quality training which motivates and enables staff to help patients.

This post will support the programme within the North West region and you will be based at one of the local HEE Offices.


Applicants should be registered pharmacy professionals, will need significant prior experience in developing and delivering training in clinical environments and must be able to demonstrate all essential requirements as listed in the job description.

Salary Progression

Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 8c with a full-time starting salary of £67,064, with a pay step increase after 5 years' service.
