Job Purpose

  • To be a part of a team where you demonstrate the ability to provide fun and exciting learning opportunities for the children, linking them to their next steps enabling them to reach their full potential. To communicate ideas, put these into practice and accept responsibility within the nursery. _

Job Role

  • To be an effective Key Person building professional relationships with the children and their families.
  • To observe, plan and assess the children effectively enabling them the chance to reach their full potential.
  • To keep a record of the children's achievements in their online journal ensuring these are kept up to date and of a high standard.
  • To contribute ideas and activities using the children's interests as the focus enabling the children to progress in their learning.
  • To help guide staff that cover in your room to ensure the day runs smoothly. This will also include helping to guide students and volunteers so they know what is expected of them.
  • To communicate effectively within your team and to help regularly evaluate practice, day to day running of the room and routines.
  • To attend and contribute effectively to meetings.
  • To take responsibility within your room to help maintain high standard of practice.
  • To help maintain our Promoting Positive Behaviour approach, making sure any conflict between children is dealt with effectively and consistently.
  • To ensure the environment is kept safe by maintaining toys are equipment is of a high standard.
  • To ensure you are regularly head counting the children and know how many you have in each session. Following set procedures such as signing in and out of the registers, head counting, doors being kept shut etc.
  • To be flexible and demonstrate the ability to work with all ages in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • To contribute and share new ideas and legislation from courses you attend to help improve and maintain the nursery standards.
  • To participate and lead group times within the room (if applicable)
  • To ensure you are fairly contributing to the daily jobs that need doing such as nappies, cleaning, snack etc.
  • To work within the agreed framework of policies and procedures within the nursery.

General Responsibilities

  • To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post regarding the Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • To act as an ambassador for Stepping Stones and maintain a positive image of its aims and work.
  • To attend meetings and forums as directed by the Nursery Manager.
  • To actively participate in staff/key person meetings, INSET and training days.
  • To carry out any other duties that are seen to enhance the nursery.

Essential for Post

  • To have knowledge of relevant legislation in relation to working with children.
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 Early Years or alternative.
  • To have good knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • To have good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage including the Characteristics of Effective Learning and how this is implemented into practice.
  • To be able to work professionally and effectively with families.
  • To be able to work flexibly between 7.30am and 6.00pm.
  • To demonstrate good organisational skills.
  • To have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan exciting activities to stimulate children's learning and development.
  • A willingness to undertake training to extend your existing knowledge in early years.
  • To be able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Commitment to work in an antidiscriminatory way to ensure equality of opportunity.
  • To demonstrate a flexible and creative approach to working with families, children and staff.
  • To hold a current First Aid and Child Protection certificate.

Qualifications

  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Early Years or alternative.
  • First Aid certificate.
  • Child Protection certificate
