You will have responsibility for a range of assurance activities in relation to the information governance framework, including how we meet the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.


What you will do

  • Be the first point of contact in the data protection and information governance team for expert advice on data protection and freedom information related issues.
  • Assist the organisation with writing privacy notices and consent forms and approve them as compliant with the relevant laws.
  • Prepare submissions in relation to any matters to be referred to the Information Commissioner's Office.
  • Manage the responses to Data Protection Impact Assessments, evaluate and provide advice on the risks and escalate these to the Head of Data Protection and Information Governance as necessary.
  • Assist the Head of Data Protection and Information Governance with the review, monitoring and maintenance of corporate information governance and data protection systems, policies, registers, schedules and logs. Identify gaps or areas for improvement, provide support to address the issues and highlight and escalate issues to the relevant person in the organisation and/or the Head of Data Protection and Information Governance as appropriate.
  • Create and deliver training in relation to data protection and information governance. Monitor statistics in relation to the training the organisation has done.
  • Monitor, identify and report on statistics relating to information and circulate key data to the Head of Data Protection and Information Governance
  • Keep up to date with developments in information governance and data protection and make recommendations where changes or opportunities are identified.
  • Identify corporate level information governance risks and raise them for inclusion on the corporate risk register.
  • Assist with audits.

Your skills, knowledge and experience

  • Experience of managing a caseload of work and delivering good customer service.
  • Ability to identify, understand and clearly explain principles of data protection and information governance legislation.
  • A strong team player, capable of developing effective relationships at all levels within our organisation.
  • Excellent working knowledge and a track record of managing and responding to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the General Data Protection Regulation 2018 and the Data Protection Act 201
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience of providing clear written responses and reports.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent experience and working knowledge of data protection and information governance best practice within a public sector organisation or regulatory body. A relevant qualification is desirable.
  • Ability to work positively and consistently across the organisation to support colleagues and maintain high standards.
  • A track record of respectful, open and honest behaviour including a demonstrable commitment to inclusion and diversity.

  • Salary: £34,089 per year, rising to £36,115 per year after successful completion of a 6month probationary period.
