POSITION:
Tutor (DET)
REPORTS TO:
Programme Leader
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Academic delivery of programmes of study
Main duties & responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Teaching on the DET programme
- Providing teaching and learning in line with the awarding organisation's requirements and specifications and appropriate students
- A tutor designs teaching materials and delivers them
- Tutors prepare hand-outs and other learning support materials
- They serve as assessors of student work
- Prepare assessment briefs
- Internally verify assessment briefs that other assessors have prepared
- Monitor and track learner progress and identify and implement timely interventions where learners are not progressing as expected or in line with their target minimum grades at the programme's start
- Reflect on practice and the development of own teaching and learning skills
- Contribute to the planning of teaching and training programmes
- Plan and manage own teaching and tutorials as agreed with management
- Ensure health and safety and equality, and diversity requirements are met
- Monitor and report assessment malpractice
- Ensure there is no conflict of interest when delivering to learners
- Ensure regular consultation with the requirements of City and Guilds on the Walled Garden
Communication and Teamwork
- Collaborate with fellow tutors and assessors on course development and curriculum changes
- Attend and contribute to group meetings
- Contribute to collaborative decision-making with colleagues on academic content
Pastoral Care
- Act as a mentor for students on long courses as a personal tutor
- Use listening and interpersonal skills to deal with sensitive issues concerning students and provide support or refer them to relevant staff members
Essential:
- A teaching qualification at level 5 or above
- Professional qualification in Assessing at Level
- Minimum TWO years' experience in teaching and as an assessor
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload
- The right to work in the UK
Desired:
- CAVA/A1 qualification
- QTLS/QTS status
- Educated to degree level at a 2:1 or above
Job Types:
Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 36 weeks
Part-time hours: 12 per week
Salary:
£25.00-£35.00 per hour
