My name is Nicola Hanafin, I am the Head of Crewing for the UK. I am searching for a Crew Operator for our UK operation.

It is an opportunity to join a progressive organization who are leaders in the field of towage and salvage services; fundamental to this is our vessel's ability to operate safely and effectively.

If you are passionate about people coordination, ensuring that you have the right people, in the right place at the right time then this role is for you.

As part of the Crewing function, you will be part of the wider UK Operations Team.


Key responsibilities


The Crewing Operator role is critical for the overall success of our UK operations, ensuring appropriately qualified seafarers are deployed to maintain full operational capability.


As a company, Svitzer plays an important role in assisting our customers manoeuvre their large ships in a safe and timely manner in and out of port.

We play a significant role in keeping the world supply chain flowing.

You will be responsible for the day to day crewing coordination with the local port teams.

You will support the Head of Crewing, UK and liaise with the Recruitment Officer to maintain a clear manpower and recruitment plan for current and future crewing requirements.

You will also work closely with the training department to align succession planning and talent management alongside the local manpower plan.


As a small team, occasionally we all need to 'roll up our sleeves' and support the frontline business in solving day-to-day issues, whilst maintaining focus on our strategic journey.


You will report directly to me, you will find that I am passionate about what we do and how we do it, always focusing on good communication and a collaborative approach.

You will become part of the Svitzer UK onshore team and will work closely with many different business functions, such as; Commercial, Finance, HR and Marine Standards.

The key to our success is combining outstanding customer service, whilst maintaining the highest safety standards.


Our crewing team works nationally, we meet up at regular intervals to get business updates and to align our strategic projects but most importantly to have a good catch up.


This role is based out of our Teesside operation with an element of working from home, we feel that maintaining flexibility helps sustain a good work/life balance, which is highly important to us.

UK travel (port visits) will be required, this will be planned flexibly and based on yours as well as business specific needs.


Please note that you MUST have the existing right to live and work in the UK to be considered for this role.


We are looking for


You have in-depth knowledge and experience within your own job discipline and handle situations and assignments independently, you will seek advice and guidance on more complex issues.

Further we expect that you;

  • Degree calibre level in your academic background
  • Have 3 + years' experience working within a crewing/HR function or a similar related discipline
  • Have the ability to collaborate and develop strong business relationships with people in the organisation who may have varying levels of maritime knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability to operate in a fastpaced environment, taking ownership and setting directions with mínimal guidance
  • Can proactively network and establish effective working relationships with our crews and internal stakeholders
  • Strong data management and reporting skills
  • Creative problem solver with the ability to thrive in a rapidly growing and changing environment
  • Our working language is English, and you must be fluent with all aspects of the language
  • Ability to engage well with a large range of colleagues of different qualifications and ranks.

Purpose:


Working with Operational Management in port to ensure that the Svitzer fleet is manned around the clock to requirements with the appropriately qualified individuals at optimum cost.

Liaising with the Operational Mangers to ensure the right seafarers are sourced in a timely manner.
