Job description

  • The School of Biological Sciences together with The Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) at Queen's University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional academic at either the Reader or Senior Lecturer level working at the
  • Big Data / Parasitology interface. Specifically, the appointee would be expected to demonstrate excellent productivity in the modelling and or bioinformatics areas as they pertain to parasitology.

This could include, but is not limited to:

systems biology/informatics approaches to enhance understanding of parasite biology, evolution or parasite-host interplay; or modelling approaches to inform human and/or animal parasite infections in a one health context.- The School of Biological Sciences together with (IGFS) provides a vibrant and integrated research and enterprise environment.

We are internationally recognised for our high-quality research and are number 1 in the UK for research excellence in the UK REF 2021 (UoA 6).- The School holds Athena SWAN Gold status, which recognises significant and sustained achievement in gender equality across higher education and research and its ongoing dedication to representation, progress and success for all.

Presentations to the School and IGFS may form part of the recruitment process.- Honours degree or equivalent in Parasitology or an area relevant to the job purpose.


  • PhD or equivalent in an area relevant to the job purpose
  • Completion of a PGCHET (or equivalent) or HEA membership
  • Research experience in the field of Parasitology, which complements the research priorities of the School and the Institute for Global Food Security.
  • Record of highquality publications at an international level of excellence in internationally recognised journals.
  • Record of successfully obtaining significant research funding including the RCUK and other resources to underpin research, as appropriate to the discipline, through competitive national or international peerreviewed processes as Principal Investigator.
  • Evidence of developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques.
