GSL have a Graduate SEN LSA role within a specialist school for children with Autism and associated, Complex Social Needs - The school is looking for sincere graduates with aspirations in Art Therapy, it's important to be able to qualify and disqualify the sectors for yourself.

Art Therapy is a long process, it's important to know early which parts of it, spark joy for you.

Long Term, 5 days, 8:30 to 3:45, Monday to Friday, term time only

This role will give you vital experience of working with children who have


Many children and vulnerable 11-18 students with Autism & ADHD present with significant communication difficulties or, surprising elements of anti-social or inappropriate behaviour.

This can make it hard for them to express their emotions and to have them acknowledged.


However, children with an EHCP for their Autism and ADHD can often develop a social connection through improvised Art and Music making.

Art and Music therapy can be used to create meaningful connections with those who are often isolated and frustrated.


The levels of learning will extend across EYS, KS1 and KS- there will be different levels of independence, none of the children will live on their own or have those levels of independence, the children will live with their families, residential care and be cared for, by the state for the duration of their life, in some cases.


As well as Art Therapy, if you have personal aspirations within OT, Clinical Psychology, Education Psychology and Child Development, this is a good base and LSA role in which to start with.

This SEN LSA role brings out holistic, therapeutic, and restorative qualities and skills, all important aspects of a future role as a Qualified Therapist.

To gain access to the Art MA you desire, it is crucial to have 9-12 months of paid experience under your belt, you need to be able to qualify and disqualify these areas for yourself.


This role is all about giving the children as much joy, stimuli, and recognition as possible, each child's learning ability will dictate the approach and levels of objectives Many children will get the greatest enjoyment.

**Specialist Secondary school for children with Autism, for students with Complex Social Needs, all studying towards their key and functional skills, an incredibly diverse range
**Focus on Autism, low to middle functioning students, there will students of higher ability sporadically throughout the school
**Parking is available if you drive, good public transport links
**Dependent on the class and the student's need, elements of personal care will be required
**Students will have a cognitive age, much below their stated age
**ADHD, Aspergers, OCD, Dyslexia and a focus on Social, Emotional and Mental Health challenges
**Heavy focus on learning through play and focusing on marginal achievements, that can evolve into sustainable progress.
**Outstanding Teaching and support teams in place, a wonderfully holistic and positive atmosphere
**Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language specialists will come into the school from outside agencies, the school utilises many holistic and therapeutical approaches
**Classes of 3-6 pupils that your student is in, dependent on age, ability and the children's specific need
