Maintenance Support Operative
Overview
A full UK driving license is required due to being on-call on a bi-weekly basis in the event of an emergency on site that needs to be attended to (such as an alarm being triggered).
Overtime will be required on 1 in every 3 weekends, which will require you to work on both Saturday and Sunday with a finish time of between 12pm - 3pm at the very latest.
KEY TASKS
- To provide support to the maintenance team under direction and work using the skills learned to support general maintenance and repair duties such as building, plastering, plumbing and general maintenance work.
- To work under direction from the Head of Maintenance to ensure projects are performed to timescale and meet with the necessary requirements and are performed safely.
- To work as a member of a team and be involved in the planning and organising of work including maintaining extraction units, clean downs, fume cupboard maintenance, chemical top up, waste removal and other laboratory based functions.
- To work using powered machine tools to carry out projects in a safe and efficient manner.
- To help with plumbing, plastering and masonry projects in line with improving or refurbishing the Company buildings to a set plan.
- To perform general handling tasks such as samples and moving delivered items where appropriate and ensure they are stored safely.
- To attend any company safety briefings/meetings/courses where appropriate to ensure work is performed safely and any defects or unsafe equipment or practices is reported.
- To help with the erecting or dismantling of support structures such as scaffolding and any other equipment used by the Company in its everyday business.
- To provide any other support as directed by the Head Of Maintenance.
- To work to all of the Company safety directives and comply with the Company Handbook at all times.
- To perform minor repairs to the building in general and fix and repair any fixtures and fittings.
- To support in terms of routine testing such as Fire Alarms and Safety Drills and perform routine Inspections where requested to fault find.
ESSENTIAL KEY SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES
- To work as a Team Member and take direction from Management.
- To be able to use Power Tools and Equipment Safely.
- To use own initiative and plan and organise best practice approach.
- To consider and plan Safety into all tasks undertaken.
- To be proactive and consider all risk involved in work projects.
- To have knowledge of Electrical, Carpentry, Masonry and other key related skills. (C&G) or equivalent.
- To have at least 5 years' experience in a similar construction/support role.
DESIRABLE KEY SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES
- To have knowledge of Safety Systems and requirements.
- To have knowledge of any necessary building regulations.
- To have been trained in FLT and Operating Lift Trucks.
- To have or be willing to train in First Aid course.
- Experienced in working at Height/Confined Spaces.
- Understanding and Collating risk assessment data.
