NHS Cheshire & Merseyside is looking to recruit an Associate Director of Quality and Safety Improvement to be based within our Cheshire East place.


Responsible to the Place Director, the Associate Director of Quality and Safety Improvement is responsible for the safe and effective leadership and management of delegated statutory responsibilities related to Safeguarding, SEND, and All Age Continuing Care (AACC) and quality, safety and patient experience oversight and assurance within a designated Place setting, alongside designated corporate responsibilities.


Responsible for providing clinical leadership and advice in respect of commissioned services and service redesign and holding providers directly accountable for delivery.

You will review performance, activity, and finance information to understand the overall clinical contribution and work with other corporate and place leads to ensure commissioning action is agreed and implemented to achieve system-wide patient safety improvements.


You will develop strategic plans to support the delivery of quality improvement, quality surveillance and assurance to support system transformation, providing professional leadership and expertise across Cheshire East with responsibility for a designated corporate programme within centralised corporate function.


A key focus will be to ensure that professional clinical statutory and regulatory requirements are delivered in respect of registered professionals employed, and that clinical governance requirements are in place within commissioned services to meet these responsibilities.

You will be required to interpret overall health service policy and standards, and legislation and guidance related to Safeguarding and SEND, decide how these should be implemented within Place, with mínimal guidance.


Cheshire East is characterised by strong foundations (excellent primary care, strong local relationships particularly with local authority colleagues) and a significant quality and safety improvement agenda.

We are the lead commissioner for two acute providers; East Cheshire NHS Trust and Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
