Description
The post holder works as part of the ward/department team under the supervision of Registered Nurses and will:

  • Participate in the delivery of patient centred care, maintaining a compassionate and professional attitude at all times.
  • Contribute to the ward/department organisation.
  • Support Registered Nurses in the provision of a caring and safe environment.
  • Demonstrate competence in generic and specialist skills as required from Appendix 1 following the completion of the appropriate training and education and within 12 months from commencement in role.
  • Function at a competency level in line with the requirements of the post and achieve and maintain both mandatory and statutory training requirements associated with the role.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD


During the probationary period, your suitability for continued employment will be assessed and provided a satisfactory standard is achieved and maintained, your employment will be confirmed.

The probationary period may be extended or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy.

For the duration of the probation period, the notice period will be in line with contractual obligations on either side.

  • The post holder will undertake other duties as may be required to achieve the trusts objectives, commensurate with the grading of the post. This includes acquiring additional skills to use new pieces of equipment.

It is expected that the post holder will be competent in the skills from the list below which have been identified as appropriate for the role by the Matron responsible for the area within 6 months from commencement in the role.

This list may be updated from time to time to reflect new skills equipment /developments.

  • Completing Corporate and Local Induction
  • Support the Staff Nurse and other member of staff
  • Admit and Discharge patient
  • Preoperative care
  • Post Operative care
  • Assessment of patient pre and post op
  • Teaching patient
  • Incident reporting
  • Involvement in department audits
  • Understand NEWS score and escalation process
