Key Responsibilities Assist with the annual TNA/LNA for the specialty.

Liaise with Learning and Development to ensure education provision utilized effectively and is appropriate for needs of Clinical Service Centre.

Assist the Clinical Service Centre to meet the Learning and Development Agreement requirements e.g. complete LBR bid, adequate mentors, participate in NMC audits of practice.


Maintain appropriate systems of information to enable the Clinical Service Centre to evidence that all staff attend required NHSLA, Quality Contract, Learning and Development Agreement and Professional updating.

Use high level keyboard skills, spreadsheets and databases which requires high level of concentration and mental effort such as compilation and management of annual training plans and LBR spreadsheets and OLM and mentorship databases.

Work with the Ward Manager/Clinical Leads to ensure all staff maintain learning record and complete relevant competencies to ensure fitness to practise.

Work with Ward Manager to capture identified learning needs from annual appraisals and PDPs to establish the annual TNA/LNA.

Support Ward Manager/Clinical Leads with talent spotting and performance management of identified individuals.

Work within the clinical area for a minimum of 20% of the role as directed by the Ward Manager/Clinical Leads to work with individual staff and teams to ensure delivery of safe and effective practice in the pursuit of clinical excellence and to develop effective systems of team working.

Provide support, pastoral care and mentorship to provide feedback on performance and manage failing students and staff.

Demonstrate specialist clinical expertise such as management of the deteriorating patient and provide visible leadership and presence in the clinical area.

Act as clinical supervisor and mentor resource and lead on development of clinical practice. Skills acquired through specialist professional experience and supported by degree level education. Facilitate learning from risks, complaints and clinical incidents. Assist with the implementation and evaluation of EBP and participate in development of policies, guidelines, audit and research.

Demonstrate dissemination of EBP through publications and presentations both internally and externally to large groups of staff.

Assist the Ward Manager/Clinical Leads to deliver high quality education programmes to staff using advanced skills in multi-media equipment and blended learning approaches.

Evaluate and audit the effectiveness of all programmes and modify own teaching accordingly.

Work in partnership with the Ward Leaders and Clinical leads to create a positive learning environment in the Clinical Service Centre and liaise with HEIs and FE providers to ensure the quality of the learning environment.

Attend meetings to meet requirements related to the role. Spend 20% of the role working across the organisation in Trust-wide projects to develop practice e.g. HCSW Task & Finish Group. Ensure continually develop oneself and participate in peer review of teaching and facilitation.


Set a personal standard of excellence in professional practice through adherence to NMC Code of Conduct, Trust policies and procedures, role modelling and high personal standards of dress and behaviour and work flexibly according to needs of the service.

Regular exposure to moderate physical effort in clinical practice and unpleasant working conditions.
