The shift pattern for this position is mixed shift pattern not night duty.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Support worker to join our Surgical nursing team within QEUH.

You will work within our Surgical Initial Assessment Unit and our Surgical wards providing support with meeting the clinical and diagnostic needs of our patient group.

You will provide clinical skills in the form of Venepuncture, cannulation, carrying out 12 Lead ECGs and capillary blood glucose monitoring.

You will carry out urinalysis and other urine diagnostic testing as well as recording vital signs and bladder ultrasound.

You will require to meet all care needs of your patient group and should be able to work alone with the support and direction of the Surgical Nurse Practitioners, Medical Staff and Registered nurses in the wards.

Good written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role and a basic knowledge of IT skills is required as you will be using our current in-patient systems for ordering and processing investigations.

Qualification at SVQ level 2/3 is desirable and or experience of working in a similar role and or demonstration of competency in the skills mentioned.

Work based training and can be given dependant on prior learning & experience.
