Scope of Responsibility


The postholder will perform a wide variety of routine/custom tasks to support on-going delivery of services provided by different care delivery providers, providing care in accordance with best practices and legislative requirements, reflecting policies and procedures and agreed standards under the direction of the Care provider and Co-ordinators.

To support and enable service users to maintain skills and personal interests whilst delivering person-centred care unique to the individual.

The postholder will maintain skills at a current level and undertake such training and development as required, from time-to-time, to maintain and progress knowledge


Essential Job functions

  • Ensure service users are at the heart of care delivery and their wishes and preferences enhance their wellbeing
  • To contribute to the efficient running of the service
  • Support service users to maintain their relationships and connections with the local community
  • Ensure personal plans and other information about how to support service users are followed
  • Be responsible for informing the Care Provider /Coordinator of any changes in the needs of service users
  • Be responsible for promoting and protecting the welfare of those individuals they support
  • Develop effective working relationships with other employees within the service
  • Work in cooperation with members of the multidisciplinary teams to maximise opportunities for service users
  • If desired by the service user, maintain and develop relationships with family, friends, and other people important in their life

MAIN DUTIES


Must be aware of the needs and requirements of the client and must communicate successfully, not only with the client but also with other stakeholders, such as family, friends and other Healthcare Professionals Clients needs and specificity will vary from client to client.


These may include:

  • Assisting clients to get up, dressing and preparing them for their day
  • Washing, bathing, showering, oral care, grooming
  • Toileting, assisting with use of commode, emptying commode
  • Continence management
  • Using manual handling equipment as specified
  • Working with other care professions such as District Nurses, GP's etc
  • Assisting with prescribed medication
  • Assisting clients to go to bed, including undressing and washing
  • Preparation of meals and assistance with feeding
  • General household duties; Bed making and laundry
  • Shopping and supplies management
  • To keep accurate records of care visits
Other duties and responsibilities to be undertaken may include any (or all) of the items in the following list:

  • Work within the SSSC Code of Practice
  • Be professional, polite, and reasonable always
  • Be registered with the SSSC and work within the Code of Practice
  • Have knowledge of, and work within, the Health and Social Care Standards
  • Obtain the relevant qualification to remain registered with the SSSC if not already in possession of the qualifications commensurate with the role
  • Attend statutory training and any other training as directed by management
  • Understand and follow all policies and procedures relevant to the role
  • Be open to learning opportunities

Basic Qualifications and Job functional Requirements:

Education

  • Good English

  • Written and Verbal
  • Registered or willingness to register with the SSSC
  • Desirable_
  • SCQF level 6 or willingness to obtain qualification

Skills

  • Essential_
  • Proficient written skills: Maintain all care plans/care records in accordance with the service policy
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to induct and orientate new employees to the job role and service
  • Provide service users with support/assistance as they accomplish daily tasks, including bathing, eating, dressing, grooming, and using the bathroom or achieving communitybased activities
  • Communicate any problems, concerns or changes to service users' family members as needed
  • Communication skills: The ability to build rapport with service users by establishing personal connections and showing interest in their lives
  • The postholder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the multidisciplinary team, with service users and their families/friends, whilst recognising people's needs for alternative methods of communication, and respond accordingly
  • Carers must have the communication skills to inform colleagues, management, and professionals about the needs of service users
  • Problemsolving skills: Ability to adapt to and address situations quickly. Plan, develop, implement, and assess approaches to promote health and wellbeing, whilst recognising and reporting situations where there might be a need for protection
