An exciting opportunity for a an experienced Plantarea Manager to join a large, independent family run garden centre in the West Kent area.

Established in the 1960's, this popular and renowned centre has built its reputation based around the quality of theirproduct offerings, and their innovative nature.

The centre offers a wide variety of plants year-round, a variety of both indoor and outdoor furniture, homeware, an extensive range of garden related products and a popular highly rated restaurant.

As a PlantareaManager you will play a key role in the delivery of excellent customer service, increasing plant sales alongside the design and implementation of inspirational displays.


Job Brief


As the Plantarea manager, you will deliver exceptional customer service to customers, using your strong plant knowledge to advise and build strong relationships, while ensuring the quality and presentation of a large variety of seasonal plants are maintainedto a high standard in the sizeable plant area.


Key responsibilities:


  • Manage a team of 5 individuals, plus additional seasonal workers as required
  • Train staff, to further their plant knowledge and improve their customer service
  • Develop, motivate, and lead your team and monitor their performance
  • Perform range reviews, identifying stronger/weaker lines and identifying opportunities for growth; keeping track of department KPI's
  • Buying
  • Purchasing and negotiating with suppliers, using information from range reviews and customer feedback to guide selection
  • Checking and receiving deliveries, making sure products are of accepted standard
  • Merchandising of products, creating eye catching displays and implementing seasonal promotions
  • Stock management in order to reduce wastage and ensure plant health
  • Ensure all staff in the plant area are informed of their tasks and complete them in a timely and efficient manner
  • Working closely with the centre manager to ensure the departments continuous growth and success
  • Several years' Experience in a similar position, or an intent to further your career
  • Strong plant knowledge, with the ability to advise customers on a wide range of offerings
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A strong work ethic, demonstrating drive and a can do attitude
  • A good understanding of EPOS systems
