Job summary:

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities helps communities across the UK thrive.

The communications team is at the centre of the Government's commitments to spread opportunity throughout the UK through the Levelling Up agenda.

It also plays a crucial role in tackling unsafe housing in the social and private rental sectors, as well as building a better future for the UK by strengthening the Union, expanding devolution, and building more homes.

And it plays an important role to play restoring pride in our communities, from tackling anti-social behaviour to promoting Homes for Ukraine.


We are looking for an experienced, creative communications leader, with a proven track record of leading campaigns and advising ministers and senior officials on a broad portfolio.


Job description:


  • Provide trusted advice to special advisers and ministers, aligning communications to their priorities.
  • Lead risk management for strategic communications and campaigns, with robust project planning and evaluation across all campaigns.
  • Ensure your team are empowered to identify and push forward creative ways to land campaign messages in support of communications objectives, ensuring at least 10% of your campaign budget is dedicated to new or innovative communications techniques.
  • Ensure your team is working effectively across Government and within the department, with stakeholders and agencies to develop and deliver communications plans, positioning strategic communications and campaigns as a valued and trusted component of a high performing communications unit.

Person specification:


  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills in working with senior stakeholder, special advisers and senior officials.
  • Ability to think creatively to reach key audiences and find solutions
  • Proven experience in establishing relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders to support delivery
  • Experience working in a fastpaced communication role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
