Cover Supervisor

Starting March 2023


Salary:
Grade - Point Term Time plus 1 week
(£23,953 - £25,927 pro rata)

Hours: 32.5 hours per week


Contract Term:
Permanent


Specific Responsibilities:


The term "cover" refers to any occasion where the teacher normally responsible for teaching a particular class is absent from the classroom during the time they have been timetabled to teach.


Supply Cover:


  • Cover for absent teachers by delivering preset work to students in the classroom, monitoring work and behaviour during the lesson and reporting on progress and other relevant issues.
  • Provide cover for morning and afternoon registration as appropriate.
  • Manage the behaviour of students effectively and provide students with a positive learning environment so as to aid student progress.
  • The postholder provides basic assistance to students as required and manages the class to ensure a supportive atmosphere in accordance with the academy discipline and behaviour policy.
  • Collecting any work after the lesson and returning to the appropriate teacher.

Examination Cover:

Provide support and assistance in examination supervision and invigilation under the direction of the Examinations Officer.


Teaching Assistant Support:


Provide support to teaching staff in the classroom and undertake individual/small group support or other related tasks as appropriate in order to assist the teacher.


Support to Heads of Department:

Provide technical and/or administrative support to curriculum heads as required.

Provide support for displays within departments.


General:


  • To contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the academy.
  • Actively participating in the performance management.
  • Identify personal training needs and other learning activities as required.
  • Develop an understanding of policies and procedures, complying with their contents and raising concerns in a timely manner.
  • To recognise own strengths, areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others.
  • The post holder may be required to undertake other duties that are commensurate to the post holder's abilities, position and grade.

The duties and responsibilities of this post may vary from time to time and post holders may be expected to undertake other duties of a similar level/nature which is considered appropriate to the level of this post.


  • On occasions when cover is light, such as at the beginning of terms, Cover Supervisors may also be required to carry out the tasks above.


Due to the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of Criminal Record Disclosure to be undertaken.

It is essential that post holders disclose whether they have any pending charges, convictions, bind-overs or cautions and if so, for which offences.

Any failure to disclose such convictions will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the academy.
