Job Description - Maintenance
Reports To - Home Manager

Job Purpose - To maintain the appearance of the Home to the highest possible standards and to ensure
Health and Safety regulations are adhered to at all times.

Key Responsibilities

To carry out repairs and maintenance tasks within the individual's

capability in all areas of the Home as requested by employees and
the Home Manager.

To understand and meet statutory and legal requirements such as

Food Safety, Health and Safety, COSHH, Fire Safety, to maintain a
safe environment throughout the Care Home.

To walk the home daily, identify any problems and carry out

specific maintenance and regular safety checks, including weekly
fire equipment, lift and tests, keeping accurate, up to date records
of the checks. Reporting any deficiencies to the Home Manager
and deal with repairs etc as appropriate.

Create a preventative maintenance programme of monthly,

quarterly, 6 monthly and annual works.

To respect residents at all times, especially their individual right to

privacy, dignity and choice, incorporating residents' needs and
requirements into your work routine so that Carebase is pleasant to
both live and work.

To liaise with the Home Manager ensuring the Care Home is

maintained in good decorative order, the Carebase environment is
comfortable, friendly and has a 'homely' feel for the Residents.

Obtain authorisation for all expenditure from the Home Manager.
To liaise with external contractors entering the Home when

carrying out authorised work to ensure that all requirements
relating to Health and Safety and the Care Standards Act legislation
are fully met.

To maintain the grounds, garden areas and fire access, keeping

them in neat and tidy condition.

To inspect the plant room (boilers), as well as the dishwashers,

clothes dryers, etc and report any deficiencies.

To ensure that tool and equipment safety are in proper working

order and stored correctly so as not to cause any interference with
residents and visitors.

To ensure the correct uniform and person protection equipment

are worn.

Maintain a work order log/system to be able to track repairs and

outstanding work within the Home.

Participate in the emergency and disaster plans for the home.
Have a certain amount of flexibility for unexpected emergencies at

out of office times.

To be approachable and interactive with colleagues, contributing

to team meetings and helping team members as appropriate.
Ensure that Carebase is a friendly and supportive caring
environment.

Job Context

Although the actual job is fundamentally an individual role, you are an essential member of the Carebase team and will be interacting and communicating on a regular basis with colleagues and Residents along with outside contractors.

Key Challenges

You are likely to be given various jobs all over the Home by different colleagues and residents, therefore, managing your own time and prioritising your workload, without being supervised, is essential.

To ensure Carebase's high standards are maintained and that each team member treats residents in the way that they would expect to be treated themselves.

Results and feedback from Home inspections and audit reports.

Person Specification
Experience in DIY and gardening.

Basic numeracy and good record keeping skills.

Basic Health and Safety knowledge.

Good communication skills.

Approachable and friendly, able to work in a team.

Ability to work unsupervised, able to plan and prioritise own workload.

Qualifications in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, decorating. Health and Safety (desirable).

Excellent organisation.

Good personal hygiene.
