About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a collaborative leader to join the Technical Asset team.

The Head of Environment, Health & Safety and Quality (EHSQ) will be responsible for developing and delivering the EHSQ strategy and working with senior management team to ensure it aligns with our wider business objectives and values.


What you'll be doing


The Head of EHSQ will have overall accountability for EHSQ performance - creating the vision and offering guidance and support for all EHSQ matters across the business.


  • You will drive adaptation of global best practices to improve performance and systems.
  • As a key member of our Leadership team, you will partner other heads of department to promote a culture of continuous improvement for EHSQ.
  • Create regular and effective communications channels to staff and 3rd parties.
  • Establish annual EHSQ goals in collaboration with the Technical Director and CEO.
  • Coordinate, facilitate and promote the delivery of an effective EHSQ Management System accredited to ISO 14001, 45001 and 9001 to meet our statutory responsibilities and a safe working environments for staff, passengers and partners.
  • Host the quarterly Executive Managing Responsible Group meeting of key business stakeholders to review performance and define appropriate action plans.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with all key regulatory stakeholders, acting as the primary contact between regulators and the airport
  • Ensure the ongoing effectiveness of EHSQ risk assessment and risk management tools.
  • Working with in house teams, design and deliver EHSQ training for Edinburgh Airport staff and third parties.
  • Deliver Behavioural Incident Analysis and Root Cause Analysis sessions to address EHSQ issues and improve performance.
  • Manage external EHSQ audits and the internal audit programme in line with ISO 14001, 45001 and 9001 engaging with teams across the business to develop action plans to ensure compliance and continual improvement.
  • Represent Edinburgh Airport as the EHSQ technical expert in internal and external stakeholder meetings as required.

What we're looking for

Qualifications and experience:


  • Degree or masters qualification in one of Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Environmental Science or similar.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • ISO 45001, 9001 and 14001 Lead Auditor with experience of conducting internal audits
  • Demonstrated ability to create a clear EHSQ vision and strategy and prioritise tasks and actions accordingly.

  • Data analytics: Ability to evaluate and manipulate data to draw insights and make clear recommendations
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including with nondirect reports and Executive team.
  • Decision making: You have good judgement and can resolve issues, influencing at all levels through effective relationships.
  • Selfstarter: You are selfmotivated and able to take a flexible approach to working hours to support business needs as required.
  • Adaptable: Ability to operate under pressure and prioritise from multiple tasks collaborating with teams across the airport.
  • Financial management: Comfortable managing financial planning, budgeting and forecasting processes.
The following additional items are nice to have, but are not essential for the role:

  • Previous experience of working within an airport or the aviation industry
  • Good knowledge of aircraft and airport operations
