CBM is gearing toward implementing its new Strategy 2030 which puts a focus on Community Support Services and Systems (CSS) for persons with disabilities.

CSS as a natural extension of our work and includes some new interconnected areas of focus such as social protection, housing, transport, assistive devices, and human support aimed at promoting independent living and participation of persons with disabilities in their communities.

We are seeking to hire a
Global Technical Advisor on Accessibility who can shape this critical position through:


  • Addressing accessibility in social protection schemes at the country level (Accessibility of social housing, public transport etc.)
  • Capacity building of country level partners in accessibility
  • Supporting Organisations of People with Disabilities (OPDs) and partners to advocate for improved accessibility systems (Developing and adopting accessibility standards, monitoring implementation etc.)

This is a full-time position to be based in one of our permanent established CBM entities. Local contractual terms of the respective country apply. An expatriation is not intended.

These are your responsibilities

  • Act as global technical advisor for accessibility with a focus on making Community Support Services and Systems (CSS) accessible via CBM's programme work.
  • Conceptualise and regularly update CBM's programmatic engagement in the area of accessibility: Develop and roll out technical guidance, accordingly, respond to accessibility requests in programmes across the organisation, prioritizing those with a focus on social protection and country level programming.
  • Lead the implementation of accessibility audits within selected project facilities including drafting of audit reports, action plans and budgets, and technical oversight of accessibility renovations.
  • Build capacities in accessibility within CBM country teams and partners, with a focus on CSS pilot countries.
  • Engage in relevant technical conversations with institutional donors and their agencies.
  • Provide technical support and input on accessibility to the design and implementation of programmes especially social protection systems.
  • Support advocacy planning and messaging in line with CBM's Advocacy Plan.

These are your qualifications

  • Master's degree in inclusive design, social sciences, international development, or related field.
  • Professional experience of five to ten years in international NGOs and/or multilateral or government agencies, with a proven track record and relevant networks in the field of accessibility (e.g. universal design, accessibility audits, capacity development, advocacy)
  • Proven experience in resultsbased management and project cycle management, including assessment, monitoring and evaluation of international development programmes.
  • Ability to engage in dialogue with policy stakeholders such as governments, academia and technical bodies on legal and technical frameworks related to accessibility.
  • Experience of developing rightsbased programmes and working with marginalised and vulnerable groups, including meaningful participation in programme planning, monitoring, evaluation as well as in political decisionmaking
  • Comprehensive understanding of accessibility
  • Person with lived experience of disability are encouraged to apply
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills and teamwork
  • English (Professional Proficiency)
  • French, Spanish, German, other language (Advantageous)
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Identification with Christian Values and the mandate of CBM
