Part Time / 20.5 hours per week / Permanent

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant who would like to work with young children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities?


The Early Years Support Team EYST support and promote the education of young children with complex SEND in the home and within Leicester City settings and schools.

The team is made up of specialist teachers and teaching assistants.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated Early Years Support Teaching Assistant to join our team.

You'll work in homes, settings and schools alongside a specialist Teachers supporting individual children with SEND, their families and staff the staff who support them as they begin their early education journey.


This is a permanent part time post working 20.5 hours a week over three days and you'll be co located at New Parks House and one of the children centres in the city.


What you'll be doing


You'll join a team of professionals to facilitate the sharing of good practices and networking across Leicester city schools and settings.

Spending most of the time in homes, settings and schools, you'll support staff and pupils and will be required to travel to various sites to see children and to attend meetings.


As a confident Teaching Assistant, you will work under the guidance of an Early Years Support Teacher following the SEND Code of Practice in collaborating to the multi agency team.

You will work directly with children on caseload to understand their learning and special needs and help make recommendations to practitioners and parents/carers.

You'll model how to implement professionals' advice to ensure that the children we support make progress in their areas of need.

You will help parents and carers in the home learning environment to develop their understanding of their child's needs, modelling appropriate play activities as well as working in partnership to understand what is important for and to their child.

You will support the specialist teacher in helping to monitor the child's progress and contribute to reports and reviews.

You will also work with settings and schools modelling the preparation and implementation of individual programmes, strategies and contribute to reviews of pupils' progress.


What you'll need


Enthusiasm and a great sense of humour are imperative for this position as well as being an effective teaching assistant.

An up to date knowledge of SEND issues, including legislation and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


You will have at least a level 3 qualification or equivalent relating to childcare and early education and have recent experience of working with children with SEND in the early years.

You'll have a good understanding of key issues for SEND including complex learning difficulties, language, communication difficulties and autism
