Description
To assist the Pharmacy team, under the supervision of a registered pharmacy professional, i.e. a Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician, in providing a high quality service to patients, Healthcare Professionals, other service users.


Take part in the management of stock: expiry date checking and to actively participate in routine stock checks.


Take an active role in accurately dispensing medicines from the Main Dispensary in accordance with RUH standard operating procedures (SOPs) to provide a high quality, efficient and timely service for inpatients, discharge to-take-away (TTA) medicines and other complex preparations.

Participate in reception duties.


Ensure the working environment is kept clean, tidy, in accordance with SOPs, Health and Safety and adhere to the Trust waste management policy.

Support the Pharmacy Operations Manager and Dispensary Manager in the delivery of an effective, efficient and professional pharmacy service.


  • To successfully complete and maintain a dispensing accuracy programme and accurately label and dispense medicines under the supervision of a registered pharmacy professional working within standard operating procedures (SOPs) at all times. Once completed the initial accuracy competence framework to then dispense/ and label prescriptions accurately, safely and in a timely fashion whilst maintaining dispensing and labelling standards.
  • Select and issue stock items against orders from wards and departments
  • Enter accurate information on to hospital computer system to enable tracking of prescriptions and updating of patient medical records (PMR)
  • Taking pharmaceutical orders and responding to the needs of the service and dealing with queries within the limits of their knowledge, responsibilities and legal requirements.
  • Responsible for expiry date checking, rotation and maintenance of all stocks and non-consumable items to ensure value for money and reduced wastage.
  • Follow pre-prepared rota for daily work capacity and adjusting daily implementation after liaising with Dispensary Manager, which may include dynamic changes to respond to service demands.
  • To assist with general reception duties including receiving prescriptions and medicines from service users and members of staff, answering phones and greeting individuals arriving
