The Role:


In an ever-evolving landscape of data, it's important that we understand, cleanse and utilize our data to ensure its quality, integrity and veracity.

Downtime is a real problem for any business asset, and data is no exception to that. That's why at Apex group we believe that data governance is simply Data Excellence.

Reporting to the Chief Technology Data Officer, the Global head of Data Excellence is the guiding light of data governance for the business, responsible for all areas of data governance, and helping drive the data strategy across the Apex group as part of the wider data team.


Key duties and responsibilities:


  • Leading teams, and squads in technology, delivering through agile methodologies
  • Working in collaboration with customers, partners, and peers to identify opportunities and devise strategy
  • Determine, implement, and report on KPIs and KRIS relating to Data Science teams
  • Work with the other Group Head of functions to agree key priorities for the teams in terms of operations and resourcing
  • Lead the Build of a data science platform based on business requirements using best practice design patterns to support the Digital Innovation of the business through data
  • Drive the continuous development and maturing of the team and its growth including cross over functions
  • Direct on and guide the choice of most appropriate toosets, methods and design patterns for the team to work with
  • Proactively drives improvements across the team
  • Understand data usage patterns across the business and use this to determine key stakeholders and data owners/stewards and custodians.
  • Provide guidance and training to team members at all levels
  • Define the operating models for documentation structures, support processes, and management techniques of maintaining a data science team
  • Provide guidance and training to downstream consumers of data on how best to use the data in our platform
  • Help Create and drive a Data Literacy programme across all business areas
  • Support the CTDO by providing back fill for other functions where applicable/appropriate to do so (Analytics/Data operations)
  • Be an SME and escalation point for technical teams and the wider business in all Data Science queries and issues
  • Assist with architectural design decisions as part of architectural boards and help drive data technology related strategical decisions in the group
  • Contribute to evangelizing and educating within Sanne about the better use and value of data
  • Comply with all Sanne policies
  • Provide Practice management controls and process alignment for other data areas
  • Any other duties in the scope of the role that the company requires.

Experience and Knowledge:


  • Highest level of Data Literacy
  • Fundamental understanding of data architecture
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • A natural leader, with experience managing technical teams, as well as managing managers
  • Previous or current experience in a senior role within data operations environments or data science capacity
  • Heavily versed in agile methodologies, as well as a thorough understanding of other delivery methods
  • Considers business impacts and success paths and how to contribute to them.
  • Strong ability to train, mentor and lead
  • Critical Thinking and research capabilities
  • Outstanding problemsolving skills
  • Excellent organizational and administration skills
  • Data Governance Practice Management
  • Data Domain Road-Mapping
  • Policy Procedure Definition
  • Knowledge of Multidata domain Data Governance Concepts and methodologies
  • Extensive knowledge of MDM and RDM
  • Working knowledge of TOGAF in a data context
  • Previous use of governance framework technologies such as Collibra, alation, Varonis, Infromatica or other toolsets
  • Has a working understanding of other Technology frameworks such as COBIT, ISO20000, ITIL etc.
  • Highly Competent in design patterns and data flows
  • Fosters a spirit of innovation and change excellence across the teams
