Studio Creative Lead (6 month FTC)

This person is responsible for the quality of output from the Sainsbury's in-house content production studios.

Working collaboratively with studio production teams to ensure that the output from the studio meets our own internal brand standards and guidelines, and more importantly inspires our customers and helps them on their shopping journey.

This role has a focus on product and category level sales content ranging from basic cut out photography, to lifestyle environment shots and product/ category demonstration videos.

A commercially savvy, creative thinker who understands retail content, can set standards and inspire/ mentor a creative production team to exceed those standards.


What you will do as a Studio Creative Lead

Content Benchmarking and Innovation:
Sets and agree studio content/creative standards and KPI's. By reviewing and understanding industry, competitors, internal Sainsbury's brand and channel teams' standards. Then building plans so that the studio meets and exceeds these standards every time. Working collaboratively with senior studio team, this role educates and guides the wider studio team.


Content Governance & QC - Responsible for the governance of product/ category level content output from the studio. Ensuring all content meets briefs, guidelines and achieves our set content/ creative standards. Briefs and educates the studio teams, helps to build creative skillsets, provides regular feedback to help improve performance and celebrates success/ achievement. Owns the studio QC process and quality KPI.


New Content Development - Will oversee any new content requirements into the studio. Including any requirement for new content types, improvements required to product content, new/first time brands, projects or categories. This person will review and research these new requirements and build plans/ sets the standards that the studio will deliver to. Will work closely with Sainsbury's Brand Creative team to translate and embed new requirements and content improvements into studio production. Will also oversee "hands on" testing phases to ensure we hit the set requirements.


Content Creation - Hands on storyboarding, concepting and Art Direction when needed. Predominantly sales content at a product/ category level, but also a wider requirement of campaign and brand content. Working collaboratively to build guidelines that can be followed by others but doing this by being the pathfinder and producing content yourself.


Collaborative Relationships - Building and nurturing close, trusting relationships across the business. Including Studio teams, Brand Creative, Marketing Campaign teams, Product Information/ Content teams, Digital Content teams, Commercial Trading teams. Regular forums and meetings to share key activity and updates. Working seamlessly together to build ideas, establish ownership, support growth and development of brands. This role is often the conduit between studio - Brand Creative - product content owners across the business.


Team Leadership - Leads and supports a team of Content Producers. Motivating and inspiring this team to deliver content that inform, educate and inspire our customers across all of our brands and channels. Holding regular 1:2:1's, development/ career planning, objective setting and performance coaching to support this team and individuals to succeed


Creative Leadership - Motivating and inspiring the team to deliver content that informs, educates and inspires our customers across all of our brands and channels. Roll model creative thinking and influence for the Studio Creative teams. Creating opportunities for and encouraging the teams to step outside of their day to day, unlock and flex their creative brains. Responsible for the creative development of the studio teams by leading creative reviews, feedback sessions and wider benchmarking sessions against competitors.


What we'd like to see from you

  • Significant experience of creating content types including product photography, lifestyle photography within studio and location and video for retail channels
  • Broad, proven experience of concept development and pitching across retail brands. Working with GM, high street fashion & food content production
  • Proven experience of Art Direction across retail brands. Working with GM, high street fashion & food content production
  • Extensive experience working in a fast paced, high volume production studio. Comfortable with the pace and energy that this requires
  • Knowledge & experience of what constitutes great product content
  • Strong commercial acumen and a great understanding of production costs of a studio environment
  • Proven ability to work with multiple large groups of stakeholders and balance sometimes conflicting priorities and timelines
  • Experience managing project budgets
  • Experience leading and developing a team of creatives
  • Has a network
