Trainee Estimator

Up to £28,000 DoE

Gloucester
We are working with a hugely successful engineering company, that is going through a period of sustainable growth. They are looking for a full-time Engineering Trainee Estimator to join them on a permanent basis.


As an Engineering Trainee Estimator, you will be the first point of contact for customers, providing technical engineering information, that is used to prepare quotes.

You will ideally be an experienced Estimator, have on-the-job engineering experience,or be an engineering graduate.

You will be responsible for ensuring tenders are put together, along with cost plans, and returned by the date agreed.


Key Responsibilities.

  • Strong relationship builder with new and existing clients,
  • Receive, log and provide quotation requests from customers
  • Ensure all job requirements including the budget are uploaded onto the system
  • Consistently update project forecast planner jobs, new clients
  • Regular contact and update communication / correspondence with the client on progress, time scales
  • Able to assist with material takeoffs with the Estimating team
  • Liaise with supply chain to regarding prices and turnaround of quotes
  • Review engineering data and make recommendations for quotations, based on the availability of parts and equipment
  • Arrange customer site and survey meetings when require
  • Produce marked up drawings to clarify scope of works when submitted with tenders
  • Work closely with the engineering team, ensuring compliance with industry standards are met
  • Happy to keep up to date with knowledge and skills to be able to work efficiently
  • Follow all mandatory Health and Safety policy and procedures
  • Archive quotes

Skills/ Experience:


  • Background in a similar technical support role, gained within a manufacturing, engineering, or equivalent environment
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Able to plan and prioritise
  • Self starter, initiative with a proactive approach
  • Understanding and experience of material takeoffs
  • Highly analytical, and excellent problemsolving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills both written and spoken
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, (AutoCAD), ERP systems and confident using bespoke software
