Marketing Manager


Purpose of role:
At DWS, marketing is inextricably linked with our sales activities.

The marketing team works closely with the DWS sales team to create awareness of the company and its products and services in the marketplace.

The marketing team also provides continuous support for our sales specialists.

You should expect to play a key part in ensuring that all marketing and promotional activities are delivered on time and to a high standard.


Attributes essential for the job:


  • Qualified to undergraduate degree level (Marketing, English Language, Journalism etc).
  • Willingness to step into a managerial position, when necessary, i.e. holiday cover.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels, including a confident and pleasant telephone manner.
  • A high standard of written English.
  • A flair for composition, spelling, grammar, and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office.
  • A strong interest in marketing, preferably with experience at degree level.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Understanding of the different social media channels.
  • Strong aptitude and interest in writing.

Desirable qualities or skills:


  • Experience of working in a marketing environment.
  • Experience of campaign planning.
  • Experience of website CMS programmes.
  • Experience with photography.
  • Experience with event organisation.
  • Working knowledge of another European language.
  • Availability to work outside 'normal' hours, if required.
  • Occasional UK and international travel if required.
  • Any experience of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop.
  • UK driving licence.
  • Interest or aptitude for science.

Responsibilities:


  • Liaise with sales team on a regular basis to obtain relevant information/customer feedback for marketing purposes.
  • Liaise with the UK and Export sales teams in the planning and organisation of exhibitions/conferences as required.
  • Occasional attendance at conferences and exhibitions to help with the smooth running of the DWS stand some unsocial hours may be required from timetotime.
  • Assist in the creation of reports, presentations, etc.
  • Help with social media when needed, this will include:
  • Assisting in generating content.
  • Researching social media sites and keeping up to date with trends.
  • Acting on any requests for information, questions, comments made when needed.
  • Collaborate with other departments to manage our reputation and coordinate actions. For example, working with the laboratory team to coordinate scientific content and ensuring the specialist for that topic is shown the wording before it goes live.
  • Assist with keeping the five DWS websites up to date, including adding new sections, products, consumables, adverts, testimonials, exhibitions, etc.
  • Assist in the creation and sending of eShots.
  • Suggest amendments and improvements where necessary, particularly in relation to SEO and social media.
  • Assist with the online promotion of exhibitions/conferences.
  • Research potential contacts/customers and pass information to sales team.
  • Monitor the followup of these leads.
  • Keep up to date with news and trends in relevant market sectors. For example, clinical microbiology, cell and tissue culture etc.
  • Research exhibitions/events for DWS to consider attending.
  • Assist with inhouse photography: taking photographs of products, parts, on and offsite locations, people, etc.
  • Assisting in the smooth running of all photo and video shoots.
  • Assist with the production of videos: script drafting, liaison with external filming company, other departments regarding resources, attending offsite shoots, etc.
  • Perform regular reviews of competitor websites and provide regular reports to marketing manager re new products, activities, events, etc.
  • Feedback any good ideas from competitor sites.
  • Maintain contact with DWS laboratories to source articles, blogs, and other marketing materials.
  • Provide holiday cover for marketing manager.
  • Other ad hoc tasks to assist in the marketing and business development of the organisation.
  • Some unsocial hours may be required from timetotime, i.e. attendance at exhibitions/conferences.

£15,967.37-£29,915.30 per year
