An exciting opportunity has arisen to be able to offer an additional position of a maternity matron post to strengthen our existing maternity team.
You must be able to demonstrate a recent track record of achievement in leading and developing innovative midwifery practice in an acute and community environment, improving quality as well as possessing a working knowledge of regulation, accreditation, governance and workforce.
As a matron you will be highly visible and will focus on improving the fundamental and essential aspects of care to women.
This will include ensuring best practice, improving clinical standards and patient experience, ensuring infection control and cleanliness standards are adhered to and ensuring that quality improvement work is implemented and sustained whilst ensuring all patients are treated with respect and dignity.
An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for this post.- Act as a positive role model through the provision of effective professional leadership and demonstration of competent, accountable clinical practice.
- Ensure that the environment meets appropriate standards for health care delivery and delivers best practice in infection control.
- To ensure the implementation of national, local and Trust standards of best practice and quality and monitor performance against these that informs the corporate performance programme.
- Provide daytoday visible, accessible and leadership in clinical areas.
- Ensure the delivery of patient care is of the highest standard and those patients and their families are treated with dignity and respect.
- Actively support the Directorate in the provision of high quality, modern, dynamic and patient centred services.
- Be an integral member of the senior midwifery management team, providing midwifery advice, and contribute to embedding quality and safety processes into the maternity services culture.
- Provide support to patients and their relatives/carers.

KEY DUTIES
Leadership & Consultancy
- Provide effective clinical and professional leadership acting as a role model for all staff within the maternity service at Whiston Hospital.
- Develop and support mechanisms to guide and empower all staff in developing and strengthening leadership skills and meeting the responsibilities of their role.
- Actively work to support and empower all staff to develop and utilise clinical leadership skills, audit skills, and risk reporting, ensuring they are supported in appropriate levels of authority to undertake their role effectively in an accountable manner.
- Ensure effective communication systems, written, verbal and the use of Information Technology is embedded in the maternity service.
- Liaise with all support services and departments to ensure they and the organisational cultures are meeting the needs of clients in the clinical areas.
- Facilitate and negotiate change and new ways of working where necessary to support new care delivery process within the directorate.
- Lead on a key area of midwifery policy or practice as part of a midwifery team as required by the findings of the regular audits of practice.
- Represent the department or directorate at professional and academic fora.
- Ensure that national guidance which as a minimum is required at external assessment is considered by the multidisciplinary team
- Engage in clinical effectiveness reviews to support the work of the department/care group in ensuring that the criteria from the maternity safety standards are implemented within the department/care group.
