  • Job description
  • This is an exciting opportunity to join an Asset Performance team in the UK's biggest environmental organisation. We manage flood risk assets across Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire to ensure they protect our communities from the risk of flooding. As professional Asset Managers, you will be part of a team inspecting, maintaining, and refurbishing flood risk assets which include kilometres of riverbanks, sluice gates and flood storage reservoirs among other things.
Your enthusiasm and positive attitude will help you find solutions that deliver our priorities.

You will help manage our asset data to ensure it is of the best quality and can be relied on to inform our future investment programme.

This may include site work to understand our asset base, collect, analyse and interpret information to ensure we manage it well.

You will be trained to undertake inspections of our assets.

In addition to ensuring our flood protection assets remain fit for purpose via our scheduled maintenance and planning work you will spend at least half your time following up on alleged illegal activity assessed as impacting on the integrity of those assets to provide protection.

Most of the enforcement action is likely to be resolved with a simple conversation, although some may require a more formal legal approach.

Either way, effective engagement and an understanding of our legislative processes is essential. This work will take place in our catchments and via written communications.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

  • The team
  • As an organisation we have an ambition to be Carbon Net Zero by 2030 and this will influence how we do things in the future.
Asset Performance Teams manage flood and coastal erosion risk assets to reduce the impact of flooding.

We do this by managing the whole lifecycle of our assets, including the effects of climate change through planning, delivery, maintenance, and decommissioning.

  • Experience/skills required
  • We are seeking applicants with a passion for enforcement, asset management, and engineering to ensure we protect our communities at risk of flooding. You will have asset or data management experience, preferably in the water environment or previous experience of enforcement with a desire to learn about asset management.

You will have a background in enforcement, civil engineering and asset management, preferably with a formal qualification or be able to demonstrate significant technical/enforcement knowledge and work experience.

You will have excellent communication and engagement skills, be proficient in data and information management.

Ideally you will be able to use GIS (Geographical Information System) and have a working knowledge of CDM (Construction Design and Management) but training can be provided.

  • Contact and additional information
  • The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce which reflects the communities we serve.
The annual salary for this role is £29,706.
Your office base location will be Ceres House, Searby Road, Lincoln LN2 4DW.
Interview and assessment will take place in person at Ceres House.
