The variety and pace of the work we cover offers unrivalled clinical experience, and you will see cases ranging from minor Ambulatory conditions to critically unstable patients with a range of presentations.
The Acute Medicine service is rapidly developing and expanding bringing opportunities for new areas of clinical work, research, education and leadership.
If you are keen to develop your career further in these areas then we can offer bespoke and supported opportunities to do so.
We offer a five year development programme for qualified ACPs supported by the consultant lead for ACP and senior ACPs.
The department is also one of the first in the trust to begin the process of developing senior ACP roles, providing more experienced ACPs the opportunity to progress their career within this diverse speciality.

As an autonomous practitioner you will be responsible for the assessment diagnosis and treatment of the undifferentiated patient on the acute medical take.
This will include requesting and interpretation of appropriate radiology investigations, non-medical prescribing, and performing relevant clinical skills such as lumbar puncture and ascitic tap.
We are also currently developing the team to provide diagnostic and clinical skills through the use of point of care ultrasound.
You will be expected to manage a case load of patients and be responsible for their ongoing medical treatment and care.
Alongside clinical practice within the specialty, the successful applicant will have weekly rostered time to undertake their own continued professional development alongside service development work.
They will be given the opportunity to follow personal interests and pursuits whether that is in education, teaching, research or management.
Encompassing all pillars of ACP, you will be expected to undertake an active role in service development, education, audit and research within the department, encourage and support others and demonstrate excellent leadership skills.
