Role Overview


We are currently recruiting for an Area Catering Manager to join our passionate and driven Catering team based at our client's site in Birmingham.

To implement the core objectives of the Business Plan, exercising all aspects of company commitments and values.

Working within the company policies and procedures in all areas of the business of assigned units, developing necessary skills to meet the requirementsof the role of OPERATIONS MANAGER ideally within a twelve-to-eighteen-month period.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Maintain client contact frequencies confirming key areas of action in writing, under the guidance of the Operations Director. Ensure all correspondence is retained for unit file information.
  • Ensure that quality objectives are audited as laid out in client SLA's/KPI's and correct any shortfalls that are identified.
  • Monitor client budgets on a weekly/ monthly basis, and under the guidance of the Operations Director, present variances to client and produce an action plan to rectify if performance is adverse.
  • Implement all aspects of Food Safety, including HACCP, and Health & Safety in units, adhering to company procedures, and following client policies where applicable.
  • Assist in the gaining of new business by:
  • supplying units of excellence for visits by potential clients;
- assisting the sales team with operational knowledge and support;
- attending sales presentations as required;
- supplying sales leads from job holder and unit managers;

  • Under the guidance of the Operations Director prepare and agree annual budget with client in line with client time requirements.
  • Under the guidance of the Operations Director prepare and agree Company gross profit budget for each unit and report actual versus budget variance each month on the monthly finance review report to prescribed deadlines.
  • Check units to establish that all areas of the purchasing disciplines are being achieved and take corrective action where necessary.
  • Monitor suppliers through feedback from unit managers and advise line manager of any areas affecting company profitability.
  • Through regular and up to date marketing and merchandising develop unit sales to meet and exceed client and company budget requirements.
  • Obtain payment for catering services, including local credit sales, within trading terms, reporting progress weekly to prescribed deadlines.
  • Implement all elements of training in units, ensuring new team members at all levels receive adequate induction within given timescales as dictated by the Company.
  • Establish a regular pattern of quality one to one meetings with unit managers under the job holders' control; providing coaching, guidance and support as required.
  • Hold Group Meetings, digitally or in person, for all unit managers under job holder's control, ensuring that Company information is cascaded and opportunity for two way open and honest communication is provided.
  • Conduct an Annual Development Review with all managers under job holders' control in order to clearly establish future development and statutory training needs.
  • Follow up training and development via postprogramme evaluation to determine success of training and implementation to improve aspects of company business.
  • Ensure that all unit Team Members receive an annual Job Chat
  • Ensure that all team members have digital learning accounts and receive full training and that it is recorded on the team members training record, within guidelines and timescales as dictated by the company.
  • Attend on and off job training as required to develop necessary skills pertaining to role of Operations Manager including negotiation skills, presentation skills, client budget preparation and presentation, document/report writing, company accounts checkingprocedures, conducting performance reviews, group training skills, minimum competencies in Food Safety, Health & Safety and Nutrition as required by the company.
  • Attend all National and Regional Team Meetings, and other company development days, unless otherwise agreed by the Operations Director.
