Position British Baker is the leading B2B brand for the baking industry. Our reach spans the whole sector from plant, craft, and in-store bakeries to ingredients and equipment suppliers as well as associated businesses like coffee shops and foodservice outlets. Ourwebsite reaches more than 42,000 unique users a month. Core readers include bakers, manufacturers, product developers, CEOs, and business owners. British Baker also has a highly regarded portfolio of events, both online and face-to-face, including the BakingIndustry Awards and Britain's Best Loaf.

British Baker is looking for a deputy editor to join its small but highly efficient editorial team.

You'll come on board at an exciting point in the brand's evolution as it strides forward with a digital strategy full of opportunities for innovative thinkingalongside a growing events portfolio.


In this role you will work closely with the editor to produce a raft of content from news stories to features, interviews, analyses, and multimedia pieces - identifying which format would work best for each piece of content.

Alongside the editor, you willthen analyse their performance to ensure the audience's needs are met and identify potential commercial opportunities.


You will also be a key player in developing British Baker's social media channels to ensure maximum engagement with the baking industry.

The role would suit an ambitious desk editor or reporter looking to take their next steps.

It offers ample room for creativity and innovation to deliver valuable information to our audience, and to make your mark on a leading B2B title.


The deputy editor is expected to run British Baker in the editor's absence meaning excellent project management skills and attention to detail are a must.


  • Be an outstanding business journalist, wellversed in digital formats and comfortable covering a wide range of topics from political issues to product trends and financial results
  • Able to delivery sparkling copy and valueadded content to deadline
  • Be highly organised and able to juggle multiple projects at a time
  • Have first class interviewing and interpersonal skills to help develop relationships with key figures in the baking industry
  • Have experience with multimedia, including recording and editing video and/or podcasts
  • Ideally have some experience deputising for editors
  • Ideally have some experience organising online or facetoface events, such as creating agendas and securing speakers to webinars
  • Be willing to travel in the UK
