About us
St Bernadette's Nursery is a well established community nursery in Bispham. We take babies from age 6 months, until they start reception class.

We have a passion for the outdoors and have a nature area with den building, growing, mud painting and a fairy garden.

Level 3 Early Years Practitioner

We are open all year round and close for two weeks at Christmas and one week in August.

We are looking for someone who has a passion for Early Years, someone who loves to plan exciting activities. Someone who loves the outdoors, speech, language and communication and physical development.


The main purpose of the Early Years Practitioner is to work as a key worker under the direction of the deputy.

To provide safe, high quality care and education to children, treating all the children equally, and recognising that each child is unique and has individual needs.


Main Duties:

The main duties of the Early Years practitioner include, but are not limited to:

  • Under guidance from the team leader or deputy, design and operate a program of activities suitable for the age range, developmental level and cultural background of the children in your care.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all the children and staff attending Nursery.
  • Compliance with Nursery policies and procedures at all times.
  • Provide high quality care and education for all children
  • Advise the manager (or person in charge) of any concern over children or parents, ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • To assist in the setting up, organisation and operation of a high quality environment.
  • Act as key worker to a child or small group, liaising closely with members of staff and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.
  • Work in partnership with the parent to provide the best support for their child
  • Care for, and teach children at an appropriate level of support and stimulation
  • Help to produce assessments and records of each child's progress through observation.
  • Assist with the recording of informal observations in the form of a daily diary.
  • Supervise set tasks for an individual child or small group of children
  • Assess and evaluate tasks or play related activities with observation
  • Have positive relationships with children and other members of staff
  • Attend training courses and meetings as and when required.
  • Keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is learned as part of the job.
  • Ensure all health and safety requirements and needs in the environment are met.
  • Participate in cleaning rota duties
  • Take children for song and story time
  • Assist children with going to the toilet and washing hands
  • Help with the preparation of refreshments for break times and assist the children with their lunches where appropriate.
  • And any other duties that may not be listed above that are required from time to time.
Have an excellent knowledge of safeguarding.
