LB Newham - 3 days per week in the office
This is an exciting opportunity to be a senior leader in the office of Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz OBE.

This role will lead and manage all core support functions for the Mayor and be part of an exciting programme to redefine the direction of the Mayor's Office.

The successful post holder will join a fast paced office and have an active leadership role in developing the team and ensuring the provision of high quality support services to the Mayor.


Key outputs will include:


  • Ensuring all strategic and administration support processes are operating effectively and efficiently and introducing improvements were required.
  • Working closely with the Mayor's Senior Strategic Advisor to lead by example in the creation of a dynamic, collaborative and delivery focused team culture.
  • To build strong operational relationships with key teams across the local authority to support the effective delivery the Mayor's Office functions.
  • Building effective working relationships with staff and politicians

KNOWLEDGE:


  • A solid understanding of the role and functions of local government
  • A strong understanding of current issues facing local government in London
  • Strong understanding of the legal and financial framework within which local government operates, and of its role within the local community
  • Awareness of quality and major service issues facing the Council
  • Strong understanding of the practical and political issues resulting from the Mayor & Cabinet model
  • A detailed understanding of the importance of solid processes and systems in a large organisation.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of work experience relevant to the field.

EXPERIENCE:


  • Proven indepth awareness of the implications of working in a political environment
  • Experience of managing and dealing with highly sensitive casework
  • Experience of handling confidential information sensitively
  • Experience of dealing with residents in a frontfacing manner and of negotiating satisfactory resolutions to difficult problems
  • Experience of devising and implementing management and administrative systems in a busy senior executive environment

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Comprehensive project management skills including the ability to coordinate a range of events and projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to deal with challenging issues in a sensitive and residentfocused manner
  • Broad range of ICT skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
