The Team


The directorate of Student Success and Learning Services aims to be an empowering, transformative and inclusive service, working in partnership with staff and students across the university, putting students at the heart of what we do throughout their journey at York St John and beyond.

The work of the directorate supports and complements student learning and academic engagement.


Student Success and Learning Services comprises three service areas: Student Success and Employability, Library and Learning Services, and Student Wellbeing, Disability and Inclusion.

It therefore has a wide-ranging remit contributing to university strategic priorities, aims and enabling strategies.


The Role
We are looking to recruit an experienced, pro-active and highly self-motivated individual as a Student Engagement and Retention Coordinator.

On a day-to-day basis you will coordinate activity designed to support student engagement and retention.

This activity will include the coordination of wellbeing check-ins for students and the supervision of staff carrying out this activity.

You will also lead on the recruitment, training and supervision of the university's team of student peer mentors.

You will take a proactive approach, ensuring that staff and mentors involved in student retention activities are well briefed and able to signpost students appropriately.


This is a new role within the directorate and you will be expected to work closely with student support teams across the university and with the Programme Manager (Access, Attainment and Progression) in particular.

This provides a great opportunity to draw on your abilities to build effective relationships, lead a team and compile reports based on data.
