Weekly hours: 22.5


Paid weeks:
Term time only plus two inset days

38.4 working weeks plus 5.6 paid holiday weeks (1.6 bank holidays included)

May 2024**We are delighted to be recruiting for a catering operative to join our catering team assisting with the daily operation of the school catering facilities.

The role will include the preparation and service of meals and the cleaning of the premises and equipment.

Poole High School is an 11-19 comprehensive school serving families throughout the historic town of Poole.

Position Overview

Support the catering managers in the daily operation of the school catering facilities. Assist with the preparation and service of meals and the cleaning of the premises and equipment.

Essential Job Functions

Catering

  • Assist with preparation and presentation all food and beverages
  • Prepare all food items within agreed cooking methods and portion controls
  • Serve staff, students and visitors to the required standard in an efficient and friendly manner
  • Clean kitchen equipment and dining furniture as required
  • Assist in the management of stock control and ensure stock rotation is in place at all times

Cashier

  • Undertake shared responsibility for cashier duties and be responsible for operating a cash register
  • Accept monies and meal tokens as payment for meals, snacks and beverages
  • Ensure money is kept secure at all times
  • Ensure all takings are taken to the finance office at the end of lunchtime

Health and Hygiene

  • To be aware of the need for good hygiene practices and the need for good personal hygiene
  • Comply with all relevant food hygiene and Health and Safety regulations under the guidance of the Catering Manager
  • Ensure high standards of cleanliness through the kitchen premises

Other duties

  • On a rota basis to help at various school events (overtime or time in lieu will be offered where the hours of such events exceed contracted hours)
  • The ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • To undertake any other such duties deemed appropriate for this, or similar pay grade.

Requirements:


  • Experience of working in a high volume catering operation
  • Customer service experience
  • Must possess a valid Food Hygiene certificate or be willing to train for one
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good level of fitness
  • Flexible approach, some evening work will be required
  • Ability to work under supervision and as part of a team
