Head of Maintenance Job Description
We are looking for a person to lead our small maintenance department.
The right person for this job must enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions and must strive to deliver high standards of work for our guests, colleagues, and animals.
Work can involve weekends and Bank Holidays, and involves a lot of walking, lifting, and bending, and you will often have to wear waterproof and protective clothing.

KEY
RESPONSIBILITIES
To liaise with our General Manager and Zoo Curator to perform the required daily operations and carry out any construction / maintenance tasks deemed appropriate.
- Working across the site to deliver a range of construction and maintenance activities on time and to a high standard.
- Construction, groundwork, and demolition.
- To ensure that the presentation of the Centres facilities always gives the most favourable impression.
- Driving digger, tractor, telehandler, and possibly other company vehicles.
- Operating handheld equipment and some heavy machinery.
- Reporting any damage or vandalism to the Centres senior management.
- To comply with all necessary Health & Safety standards and ensure they are implemented.
SKILLS AND
QUALIFICATIONS
- Punctual, hardworking, and able to use own initiative.
- A highly motivated individual with excellent Grounds Maintenance skills.
- Time management.
- Excellent and clear communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and lead.
- To work calmly and effectively around animals and guests.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety compliance.
- Maintenance of records relating to materials, vehicles, and equipment, and ordering supplies.
- Ability to interact positively and professionally with the public, and colleagues.
EXPERIENCE
You should have experience of varying construction materials and methods required in a Zoo, and a general hands-on approach to any maintenance issues which may arise.
WORKING HOURS:
This is a permanent position covering 37.5hrs per week.
Rotas are based on any 10 days from 14 and hours are 8.00am - 4.00pm
You will be expected to work at least one weekend day, public holidays, and school holidays.
UNIFORM:
Uniform will be provided.
