Work Pattern:

37.5 hours per week but flexibility required to achieve best outcomes for clients.


About the role:


This is a great opportunity to work for a Charity that has a commitment to work in a person-centred, trauma-informed way with people who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness.

Harbour Housing values the benefits of having an in-organisation Wellbeing, Activities, Volunteering and Engagement (WAVE) service and counselling sits within this team.

The post holder will be key to supporting our client's ability to engage in support for their wellbeing and independence.


Principal Accountabilities:


  • Counselling and therapeutic interventions for clients
  • Building capacity for wellbeing in the organisation
  • Effective administration and record keeping

Shared Responsibilities with other Harbour Housing Colleagues:

  • Foster community Links.
  • Liaise with colleagues and external service providers where appropriate.
  • Work to strengthen and enhance Harbour Housing's values and culture.
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of clients.
  • Create a positive behaviour culture based on inclusivity and empathy

Key Function 1:
Client Counselling


  • Deliver and develop therapeutic interventions to support and empower clients, encouraging confidence, independence, resilience and generally promoting positive mental and emotional health.
  • Provide counselling assessment for clients as well as act in a consultative capacity and offer guidance to other staff and professionals enabling them to better identify and support clients with emotional health and wellbeing difficulties.
  • Therapeutic and psychoeducational group work
  • One to one counselling to help address the underlying issues that may be contributing towards client's homelessness and hindering independence.
  • Working with client's past trauma, supporting them to create pathways for greater resilience and recovery from homelessness.
  • You will also need to liaise with our safeguarding lead and support the overall policy and procedure development for therapeutic working with complex individuals.

Key Function 2:
Building capacity for wellbeing


  • Identifying and accessing other platforms and resources for effective use within Harbour Housing, for example consulting with clients about their needs and developing the provision of alternative therapies.
  • Professional input to relevant policy and procedure development.

Key Function 3:
Administration and Professional Standards


  • Keep up to date with safeguarding guidance and policies
  • Contribute to safeguarding training for staff as appropriate to reinforce and enhance safeguarding knowledge and practice
  • Recognise how to identify signs of abuse and when to make a referral
  • Respond appropriately and promptly to disclosures or concerns relating to the wellbeing of a client
  • Recognise and refer any allegations or cases of suspected abuse to our safeguarding lead
  • Keep accurate and up to date records of client engagement with counselling and therapeutic interventions
  • Attend relevant training on an annual basis.
  • Attend staff meetings/briefings and be an active part of the WAVE team.
  • Be proactive in identifying training and development needs and making suggestions for development to Management.
  • Manage confidential data in line with Harbour Housing policies at all times.


Any other reasonable request made by the operations Director and Line Manager commensurate with the grade and nature of the post.

£20,069.52-£24,066.04 per year
