The Job


The primary role of a Property Maintenance Operative is to optimise property condition and quality and to ensure the building is kept in a safe working condition.

This qualification provides the apprentice training and competency to carry out minor works in


the following trades:

  • Carpentry
  • Plastering
  • Drylining
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical works
  • Insulation
  • Tiling
  • Drainage

Property Maintenance Operatives will:
They will understand the mechanism of buildings including electrical, plumbing, plant, safety systems and equipment.

Understand and maintain plumbing and drainage systems, for example repairs to WC systems, leaking taps or water testing and unblocking drains

Understand and maintain electrical distribution, safe repair of electrical installation to legal requirements, for example replacing damaged sockets, plugs, lighting and fuses

Understand and maintain plant, safety systems and equipment


What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?


Typical job roles could be working with or as general builder, premise manager, maintenance assistant, property engineer, facilities assistant, maintenance engineer, Maintenance manager, Maintenance technician or Multi-skilled technician.

You can then progress into a focused apprenticeship within a chosen trade should you wish.

Working Week


Apprentices will be expected to work a maximum of 45 hours a week, 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday with exception for college.
