Ysgol Pen Coch is the primary special school for Flintshire based in Flint. We pride ourselves on educating and supporting pupils who require a special school approach to maximise their potential.Our purpose build school and specially trained staff provide what we feel is a positive, supportive environment which works hard to meet the social, emotional, educational and physical needs of all its pupils.
Our school is a community in itself, as well as being part of the wider local community of Flint.Parents and carers are an essential part of that community and we pride ourselves on building close relationships with families to support our pupils at home as well as in school.
We also aim to create a warm and welcoming environment for children and staff, and for visiting professionals and visitors who are important partners to Ysgol Pen Coch.
As a teaching assistant you would support teachers and help children with their educational and social development, both in and out of the classroom.
Job roles will include:
- Supervise and provide particular support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
- Assist with the development and implementation of individual education / behaviour plans and personal care programmes
- Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
- Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
- Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher
- Support the care needs of the pupils, including personal care.
- Understand the safeguarding and behaviour policy and their role within these policies
- Promote the welsh culture
- Working with children aged 3 to 11 years
- Supporting a teacher in various roles within the classroom
- Ability to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times whilst working in schools
Essential Criteria:
- An eagerness to learn more about becoming a Teaching Assistant
- A passion for working with children
- Possess relevant qualities including patience and communication
- Ability to show professionalism at all times
- Ability to listen and learn from more experienced staff
- Any previous experience working with children
- Any previous experience with special educational needs (SEN)
- Strong English & Mathematics
- Communicational skills relevant to both children and adults
- Competent skills in numeracy, literacy and ICT
- Ability to selfmanage and organise own time

Working Hours:
30 hours per week for term time only plus 28 days holiday pay
Minimum Age
16
Qualification required
Minimum A*-C GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
Apprenticeship to be undertaken (Level and course)
Level 2 NVQ Supporting, Teaching and Learning
Job Types:
Fixed term contract, Apprenticeship
Contract length: 12 months

£7.49 per hour
