Buildings Supervisor (BS).

The role of the Buildings Supervisor will be part of the Technical and Property Department at Leeds Heritage Theatres (LHT)


The role of the Technical and Property team is to facilitate all technical aspects of performances within the charity's venues; to ensure health and safety is adhered to; support the long-term improvements of the stage areas and venues in general; and to help maintain and deliver fit for purpose historical buildings by supporting the company with its Capital Programme.

Purpose of Job
The Buildings Supervisor, supported by the Technical and Property Department, will supervise the provision of all aspects of property and maintenance for LHT by:

  • Be an active and supervisory member of the Technical and Property Department in controlling the day-to-day activities of the team to meet objectives, aligning resources to priorities, and ensure service delivery is robust and to a high standard. Supervising both contracted and casual staff.
  • Supporting the property manager in the implement of all projects relating to the building improvements, facilities, and maintenance.
  • Supporting the senior leadership team in all aspects of health and safety and be a key member of the company's H&S committee as and when required.
  • Possess a positive, cando attitude and flexible approach to working as part of a technical team, including providing cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
  • Undertake any other duties which are commensurate with the post at any of the Charity's venues.

Principal Accountabilities

Supervising of the venues upkeep and improvement:

  • To lead the maintenance and upkeep of the facilities at Leeds Grand Theatre and City Varieties Music Hall
  • Ensure Contractors are aware of all inhouse safe working practices via the use of contractor induction.
  • Review all Contractors paperwork to ensure all aspects of the maintenance and improvements are covered to a high standard.
  • To lead in the running of maintenance and improvement projects to a high standard.
  • To manage the visualising and proposing building upgrades to support the companies' vision to produce the highest standards of theatre and film.
  • To support the team at the Hyde Park Picture House in the maintenance and improvement of the Cinema building.

Health and Safety:


  • Production of risk assessments, Method Statements, and safe systems of work within the Technical and Property department. With the vision for the building infrastructure and contractors to be produced to a high standard.
  • Ensure safe working practices are always adhered to, including, but not limited to, working at height, Contractor Management, CDM, manual handling, IOSH, & RIDDOR.
  • Lead in the production of maintenance records and safe working methods. Including COSHH data sheets. Also taking a lead in the management of asbestos, Vibration, and work equipment across the venues.
  • Lead in the supervision and control of all department workshop and storage areas aiming to achieve high standards of safety and equipment upkeep,
  • Lead on ensuring all staff and contractors, adhere to safe working practices whilst working at all LHT venues.
  • Offer advice and guidance companywide for building safety within the venues.
  • Have a clear understanding of responsibilities as outlined in the Fire and Evacuation Policy and Procedure as well as all the fire safety systems which support that policy.
  • Lead in the implementation of any actions received from both the health & safety audit and the fire risk assessments ensuring the venues are as safe and secure as possible.

Supervise:


  • Supervise the implementation of all maintenance contracts and planned maintenance programmes for Leeds Grand Theatre and City Varieties Music Hall, and support Hyde Park Picture House team.
  • Ensure are staff are competent of what is expected of them on any maintenance projects carried out and any problem solving which would be required.
  • Ensure the production of all relevant department paperwork to a high and accurate standard.
  • Motivate and mentor, creating a positive and enjoyable workplace and culture. This includes being open and accessible to all staff and helping set a high standard of work.
  • Supervise all staff with a knowledge of the BECTU agreement, In House buy out, and Working Time Directive, ensuring all departmental staff have a safe and supportive working environment in line with the Positive Work Environment Policy.
Work closely with the HR department in relation to all staff matters.

  • Manage the daytoday technical operation of the building, ensuring they are safe to use by all members of staff and visitors. Including assisting in locking up procedures and ensuring security measures are in place.
