The Independent Living Team deliver housing related support to sheltered housing tenants on behalf of Canterbury City Council.

The Sheltered Plus service provides all the benefits of sheltered housing with the addition of an on call night service and day time laundry service.


We are recruiting a night service assistant on a casual contract to support tenants that require a night time peace of mind service.

This is a waking night duty, and applicants are advised that this is a casual contract to cover sickness and annual leave within the permanent members of the team, so there will not be a regular work pattern.

The shift pattern is from This role will be across 4 sheltered housing schemes in Canterbury and Whitstable.

A mileage allowance will be paid, as this post will require travel to all four locations and responsive on call duties.


Main Duties
To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection guidelines.

To comply with health safety policy procedures, To be fully aware of professional boundaries reporting any safeguarding or any other welfare concerns directly to line manager.


  • Promote independence and avoid creating dependency.
  • Ensure the building is secure at night and health and safety inspections are completed
  • Ensure corridors are clear from obstruction.
  • Ensure communal areas are clean and tidy and free from clutter.
  • Report building repairs directly to contractor /manager
  • Ensure comprehensive notes are written up electronically for the manager
  • Be flexible and adaptable, work on a rotational basis in 4 locations according to rota.
  • Support the onsite Independent Living Manager with administrative tasks that support and promote communication with tenants.

  • This post requires you to have a full driving licence and own transport or be able to travel at an equivalent timeframe
  • Due to the nature of the role, this post requires an enhanced DBS check.
