Hours of Work:22.5 hrs per week**
Salary: £16/ hour

Guideposts Trust is a charity that runs community and building based services in three counties. It has around 100 staff and looks after over 1000 people with additional needs. It runs programmes based in buildings (our own and others) and in the community.

We want to provide safe services and ensure we are meeting legislative requirements - keeping our staff and clients safe.


Purpose

  • The HSE Officer will report to the CEO and support the development and maintenance of the Health & Safety and Environment policy for the Charity.
  • Provide expert advice, guidance and support at both strategic and operational levels as well as using skills and experience to identify upcoming challenges and risks.
  • Undertake site visits checking compliance and updating local managers and staff.
  • Ensure policies are up to date and being adhered to. That staff have appropriate training for the risks they are managing.

Our successful Health and Safety Officer Worker will:

  • Advise Directors and Managers on all H&S and welfare matters to ensure the company complies with its statutory obligations in line with all current regulations and legislation
  • Update the training matrix for all staff
  • Ensuring safe and successful training of all existing teams and conducting H&S onboarding with new employees
  • Attending sites to audit H&S practices
  • Effectively manage First Aid and all Emergency procedures
  • Conducting and recording thorough inspections and support the implementation of measurable improvement plans
  • Monthly reporting of improvements, updates and statistics to management
  • Provide training to operational staff to ensure they have sufficient understanding of requirements when carrying out local H&S
  • Increasing awareness of all HSE matters across all staff and volunteers departments and sites

We are looking for someone, with:

  • NEBOSH diploma or certificate
  • Experienced in a HSE
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills, including an ability to convince others effectively
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to identify needs, prioritise workloads, set achievable targets, evaluate progress and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to exercise initiative and willingness to propose initiatives and accept responsibilities
  • Must be confident in presenting, communicating and influencing groups and individuals at all levels
  • Ability to communicate and present at management level

Key Competencies

  • Appetite for learning and proactive in updating the Charity on changes to H&S.
  • Travel, conduct visits and identify risks. Reporting back to local and senior management.
  • A proactive approach to teaching and educating staff and clients on keeping safe.
