The role:


The Supplier Quality Engineer will be at the front end of Barden's Quality function ensuring that parts and raw material being delivered to the company meet the requirements set to them.


Key elements of this role will be continuous improvement of suppliers, taking a proactive approach and establish investigations/studies based on incoming inspection data collected.

Working with suppliers to ensure effective communication of Barden's Quality requirements and working with them to ensure what they can deliver is fit for purpose.

To carry out both on site and remote audits of supplier's sites both in the UK and abroad to ensure the quality of the work they are doing and drive improvement.

Management of concern investigations at suppliers, working through the 8D process with the to ensure effective concern resolution and countermeasure development.


In addition, where required the Supplier Quality engineer may be asked to carry out some internal Quality Engineering support within Barden, ensuring the product and manufacturing processes meet with the company's quality standards.

This may include monitoring the quality systems implementation on the shop flow, driving continuous improvement throughout the process, handling and managing non-conforming material and driving down scrap levels in process.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


  • Travel to suppliers both in the UK and internationally where required
  • Oversee the incoming inspection of parts delivered to the company, defining the inspection level to be completed and reacting to any nonconformances identified
  • Completion of supplier audits both on site and remote to ISO9001 and AS9100 standards
  • Manage nonconforming product from suppliers ensuring effective implementation of corrective methods using 8D methodology. To drive and lead 8D analysis
  • Working with suppliers to ensure Quality levels are met by building a relationship with them through continuous improvement activities and ensuring flow down and understanding of the quality requirements
  • Coaching of suppliers to ensure that APQP and PPAP requirements and documentation are achieved
  • Develop and report supplier quality metrics
  • Actively identify and lead Quality improvement projects; ensuring completion in a timely manner
  • Work as an integral part of the Quality Engineering team to ensure that all audits are completed in line with their planned schedule
  • Work with the Quality Team promoting the Quality Strategy and practical implementation throughout the organisation
  • Where required to engage with the internal shop floor production and actively identify, establish and drive continuous improvement throughout the organisation, responding to the quality and failures identified

Knowledge:


  • Experience of Quality Engineering within an Engineering or Manufacturing Environment
  • Formal training and comprehensive understanding of quality management systems ISO9001, AS9100, AS9120
  • Ability to interpret Engineering drawings, technical specifications with a demonstrable understanding of Geometric Tolerances
  • Strong and demonstratable experience in 8D, 5Why investigations and continuous improvement activities
  • Demonstrable involvement in the use and a comprehensive understanding of quality improvement tools including Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), 5Ys and 8Ds
  • Experience of Supplier Auditing to ISO9001 or AS9100 standard. Formal Auditor training preferred
  • Knowledge/Experience of Project management techniques

Qualifications & Skills:


  • Audit qualification against ISO9001 or AS910.
  • Six Sigma Certification
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal) are required, with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure & remain focused
  • Able to develop strong effective relationships both internally with our people and externally with suppliers
